AnnT, the Beltline Bar seems like one of those places that never changes, it's been the same forever. Elery and I have been married 10 years and he'd never been there, so it's been that long since I was there. It hasn't changed except they used to have that plaster statue of a rearing horse out front, and now that's gone. I looked for the horse, that was my landmark, and it wasn't there! Elery's middle son, Chris, was talking about restaurants in Grand Rapids and I mentioned that there were hundreds. He agreed, but said that somehow, no matter what he planned, when he was in Grand Rapids he ended up at the Beltline. Not gourmet food, of course, much more American than Mexican, but still good... It was pretty much a perfect day for me, and today I spent the day in the garden, so two days that have made me very, very happy, as well as all the good wishes here. Thank you all again. Annie

Thank you all, so much. I'm 55 today and we went out for breakfast, I was all set to celebrate by ordering off the 55 or older menu. Nope, they didn't have one, LOL.

The wedding was yesterday. We cooked for 600, about 300 showed up, about what I had guessed. It was hotter than blazes, 85F here in Michigan and neither the church nor the hall we had for the appetizers was air conditioned so the poor guys were about melting in their tuxes. We served more punch and lemonade than anything, I think, and we had lots of food leftover, but I'm glad, it means we didn't run out of anything. The leftovers we donated to the church, they will distribute it to the needy.

Today we got up, finished cleaning the hall, packed up all the utensils and plates, roasters and sheert pans, then had breakfast at Bob Evans with Elery's other kids and the grandkids. Fourteen of us in all because my mother came along to help. After breakfast Mother and I drove the two hours back home, and then went up to the family cemetary to clean up Dad's grave, Uncle Marty's, Grandpa and Grandma's. Tomorrow I'm going out to finish planting the garden and the "check engine" light is on in my Jeep so Dave is going to take a look at that for me.

Yup, big celebrations here, LOL. No cake, Elery is working, but both my girls called and the wedding is over and if only the pool were uncovered, I'd be swimming because it's 82F still, at 8:30 at night. THat's OK, I might do that tomorrow too, because it's going to be 60s next week!

Ah Annie, Happy Birthday youngster! I'm glad the heat was the only problem with the wedding. I agree, too much food sure beats running out. Ya done great. Glad it's done for you. Nice breakfast with all that family sounds good too. Too bad the pool isn't open. Crazy weather.

Just want to let you know how much I appreciate you on this forum on your special day. You always seem to see the many views on subjects and help a lot when waters get muddy around here. You're fair and ever helpful. I must say I love your work ethic and your dedication to the farm and all your animals. You have a beautiful family and are so kind to share them with us. To another year of good cooking with the kids and best wishes for strong fence posts.

Annie, I'd never forget a friend's birthday!
I was hanging out with visiting relatives over the weekend. But I was with you in spirit, while you were busy serving food to 300 hungry guests.
Remember that little voice that whispered: "Run Awaaaay"...that was me.

I'm glad you didn't take my advice though, as the celebration benefited other folks, outside the wedding party.

I hope you're well-rested, and ready to riverdance your way through a new day.
