Getting HW VisionPro IAQ-What Next?

Okay, The Yth9421c1002 Vision Pro IAQ goes in tomorrow with my new 16 seer single stage a/c and 95% afue variable speed furnace. This will be the first IAQ he has installed, due to my insistance, after the many reads posted here. This is the first one the distributor has sold ( spoke with them) He and I will go over the installation and manual. I will be at a loss and confused.

Went with this big buck thermostat just for the dehumidification.

What should I ask? Look for? How will I know that it is installed correctly? How can I tell if it is or is not installed correctly. Where does the interface module go?

I am on good terms with the installer and he will not upset him with my questions?

Please help!!

He needs to read the manual well before installation. The EIM (module) is mounted near the indoor components (i.e., by the furnace). I believe quite a few of the settings are "auto-discover."

If anything comes up or stumps the installer, you can post back, and there should be people here familiar with its installation/setup. I've installed a couple VisionPRO 8320 thermostats, but not the IAQ, which doesn't appear to be too much different as far as setup goes.

See the link below. Starting on page 13 is a list of all the programmable settings - and there are quite a few. I would read these over and be ready to ask questions as the installer is setting these up.

Did you purchase the external temp sensor and do you have access to run a pair of low voltage wires from the Interface Module to the exterior of the house to connect to the external temp sensor? See the manual for details.

Thanks - the EIM was a guess on my part b/c the tech who was here yesterday said we'd need another part in order to convert our 2-zoned system to a single zone (or zoneless? Which seems to allow lockouts - I took the upstairs zone 2 stat off the wall and set the master stat 0110 to 0 instead of 1 this AM and it retained the settings. But DH wants 2 zones). beenthere on hvac-talk asked about the zone controller (it's a W8835A) and hinted that there was something the installer missed on page 8 of some manual. I can't find anything on page 8 of the IAQ manual so I think he's referring to W8835 manual. Can't give more specifics there since no DIY, can you confirm I should have installer look at page 8 of W8835 manual? Maybe a jumper or a DIP setting? I don't think BT was referring to IAQ manual b/c we went through every setting yesterday (tech was here 2 hrs) and nothing worked, but when I changed it to a single stat and unzoned it worked this AM. I know our bills aren't horrible, but just trying to get this working most efficiently - starting with proper setup, then I'll mess around with setbacks (or not to setback, that is the question LOL). I don't think we're going to do anything about the 5kW final stage being used as a first stage - continue to run that way as tech recommended since I don't want 10kW first stage coming on all the time. I'd love to have 5kW 1st stage and then 10kW (he mentioned 5 and 5, almost like 3 stages, but set 0176 for 2 stage) if needed, but e didn't seem interested in changing the staging wiring, so what can I do? I'm not going to mess with it myself and void the warranty. So best I can do is try to affect the "staging" by having breaker for 10kW stage off until it's really cold. Thanks

ibj, I feel for you, to be honest if your friend sells trane, he has got to know about the dip switches, plus he has to know about IAQ thermostats, It trane and HW IAQ for pete sake it's like bread and butter. There is nothing wrong with trane I sold/installed them for 10 yrs I know the systems very well. I also know that there are guys who sell trane that will under cut the price then leave the customer hanging and of course the customer comes here for advice when we just got through mentioning find the right install contractor. I can give the advice but you need to have your friend look this stuff up and fix it for you. You paid him, remember you didn't pay us. And I just lost a job because of a guy like your friend who undercut me and I know for a fact this long time customer of mine is in for a rude awaking because he went with a larger system and is not going to correct his zoning. But Things happen for a reason. His job loss turned into 4 other leads today. For your friend Just have him buy the IAQ stat and read the instructions it's all there and then he will know the setup for you and for the future next customer. Remember it's his job to know or to find out how and that is why you paid him. keep us up to date and if he doesn't pull through I will be glad to go through the IAQ thermostat with you.

Thanks Dave! I am suppose to do a 2-zones. The framing at 3rd floor attic hasn't been completed yet so for now we are just using IAQ and TH5421 for 2nd floor. Later we will use W8835 with two IAQ for 2 zones. Everything is fine other than the contractor didn't enable DOD, I got the impression he doesn't really understand DOD feature. Everytime I told him I want HW VP IAQ because I want DOD he was like oh pretty much all trane board/or HW 8000 has dehumification features. Grrr! They will come back in a few weeks to complete the zoning and given that it's difficult to trust them set it right I thought I tap your excellent expertise and prepare for myself. Anyway, just make sure I understand it right. I draw the following line on the pic and 2 other questions. Correct me if I were wrong. From t-stat Btw I forgot to mention I have a 8 KW Aux backup heat strip, at the moment is wired on W1, is this about right? He told me the Aux Heat strip will come on at 3 degree lower the set temprature. For example, if I set the temprature to 68 F and the current room temprature is 66 F, the heat pump heat-on will come up but if the room temprature is only 64 F, the aux heap strip will kick in first until it reaches 65 F then the Heat pump. Unless I put an outdoor temp sensor I won't be able to "lockout" say only let the heat strip comes on at 35 F. Does this make sense? Again, thank you so much. I hope you have a great vocation. No I didn't (should I have it and why?) and yes I have access to run low voltage wires.

Just got word that the IAQ will not be in till Friday and the installer is going on vacation tomorrow and I'l be out of town all next week. He and I will have a week and a half to read up on the unit.

I will still have my lap top to stay in touch here.

The external temp sensor is used by the VP to control several functions. The unit will work without it but you will loose some functionality.

The external temp is needed if you want the Vision Pro to control a whole house humudifier with frost protection.

The external temp sensor is also used to control lockouts. For example - if you have a 2 stage heat pump with auxiliary electric heat - you can define a lockout temp such that if the outside tempertaure is above the lockout temp the Aux Heat will not come on (see parameter 0360).

And of course if you want to display the outside air temp on your Vision Pro touch screen you need the external temp sensor too.

The temp sensor doesn't cost much and you can get it at www.iaqsource.com. The part # is C7089U-1006 and it costs 29 dollars.

When I ordered my VP's they offered a bundle with both the VP and the external temp sensor. I don't know where you purchased yours - you might want to check to see if it is included.

thanks for the info. I have no humudifier or heat pump but for $29 I'll get one just to have the outside temp.
