Would appreciate good thoughts

As some of you know my youngest daughter is expecting and is very near her due date. She is considered high risk and at her last sonogram (Friday) they found that the baby is slipping in percentile and will be monitoring her twice a week. She has been through hell and back and is showing strength I didn't know she had. The baby is being adopted by an absolutely wonderful family which is a good thing but I expect some rough times ahead because of the trauma this will cause her. Please-prayers or whatever good thoughts you have to offer. Thanks. Satine

Guys DO talk about the same things women do - but generally with other guys instead of women - at least in California. It might be different in NY. However, there is no reason to assume that the husband has any idea of what the wife did - it would be very easy for her to buy clothes for herself or other indulgences that the husband might think she actually could afford. I'll admit that most men have no idea how much women's clothes cost. For example, my boss once told a group of salesmen (who were selling high end furniture) that they should tell their clients, "Anyone can go into a store and buy a dress for $2,000 off the rack, but if you want a couture dress, you would have to go to a special salon and pay $20,000 for a custom dress." I'm not sure if that helped sell furniture, but it does illustrate the concept that prices for common items can vary greatly. She could also have investments that she keeps hidden. It's easier to hide things from men than from women. I think your husband should continue to ride bikes with his friend - and if he feels comfortable in bringing up the subject, he can. He could do it in a round about way - such as asking how his wife is doing. He doesn't have to refer to the article directly. From what you've said, there is little reason to be suspicious of the husband, although that does not mean (yet) that he was unaware of what she was doing. The best news,just as we all hoped! Dexascan is a piece of cake - I used to do them when I worked in the Rheumatology office. Bone-building drugs may be prescribed, but they work slowly, so 6 weeks one way or the other won't make a huge difference. There are lots of reasons you can have osteopenia or osteoporosis - drug therapies, both chemo and steroids, being too thin (being under 127 pounds is a marker for risk), family history, early menopause, low calcium and Vitamin D, and the list goes on. For now, take care of yourself, be a good girl and do what the docs tell you to do. We'll all be here, thinking of you and cheering you on until those crutches are tucked away in the closet.

Thank you all for your thoughts! I could try to post a diagram but it wouldn't be until tonight when DH gets back. The problem with this house is that it has been completely remade from its original layout, so we're trying to put back a semblance of sense into the rooms without going to really intense expense of re-engineering beam support, etc. A substantial part of our remodel money thus far has gone to correcting really serious problems (plumbing and electrical) that were created by the past reorganizations. The issue wrt the door right into the family room: yes, that's a very good point. We're placing it, as bronwynsmom says, a "bit removed" from the actual family room "square", as it were; we wouldn't have it *right* into the family room, but rather make a tiny hallway in the adjacent wet bar area (which was originally the master bedroom bath and closet...*sigh*) and have the door off that. It would be at a 90 degree angle, which I'm afraid is the best we can do. So between that and the mighty mighty Panasonic vent fans (have them in the other bathrooms and love them--quiet and effective!), there shouldn't be a privacy issue. The commode itself is close to the bedrooms-hallway door, not where the public door would be. We can't close up the first door completely because the second bedroom needs a bath that connects within the bedroom hallway. We have a LR but we're so not used to using it because it's been full of remodeling stuff for, well, years now. Wish we could have a PR closer to the LR, but this second door will go a ways toward fixing that. I don't *love* the idea of a second door, it wouldn't be my first choice, but given our realistic options now I think it's the least of the evils. deltabreeze, the idea of a complete separate powder room would be so wonderful IF we had the space. As it is, I don't think we can fit both in there without having the tiniest of jewelbox PRs and there would be no room for a separating hallway. But it's a *great* idea; thanks for thinking out of the powder-room box! :) The idea of labeling doors is good, too. They wouldn't be situated so that anyone's knees would be knocked, but still a good idea to prevent panic :) I'm thinking of a pocket door on this door, if possible (may be, may not be, but I've got it in my mind). All your responses have really helped DH and me think this through (I've forwarded him the link).

My GD just went thru that and her baby is just fine. She was tiny but oh what a set of lungs. Will keep her in prayers and good thoughts.

I'll continue to keep everyone in my prayers, Satine. Has your daughter still got good support from a therapist/group if the adoption proves very difficult for her? Please tell her for me what a wonderful, selfless person she is and that she will always have the gratitude of that couple and most likely her child, in the years ahead.

Must she surrender her child immediately? What counsel is she receiving? I would leave the eager adoptive parents out of this entirely until she can make this *lifelong* decision for herself and her child.

Your DD is doing a wonderful thing by giving the baby up for adoption. Some close friends of mine adopted 2 years ago and little Finn, who I occasionally mention, has brought so much joy to his new family and to me also. I am his Grammy Linda.

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers. I just wish I lived nearer her so that I could be more support. She is about an hour and a half away. She has no car so has to use the bus to get to Dr. apt etc. Of course when "the time" comes I'll be there and will stay in a hotel near the hospital. Again, thank you for all your support. I need it as Im getting concerned about both her and the baby. Satine

chisue - You apparently missed Satine's opening line, stating that her daughter is "near her due date". Ergo, she's had 9 whole months to be counseled and think about the decision she's making. Please stop giving advice on something that you know nothing of and in the process, typing out posts of discouragement.

Satine, your family has been added to my daily prayer board and to our weekly prayer group/Bible study. Not even knowing you or your daughter, you both truly make me proud! Just plain proud. :)

satine does she have access to a social worker? that's what my dd does, and has helped kids/ladies get transportation, ect, esp with her being high risk...
