Colleen,I am so sorry that there is such a cloud hanging over you at the moment. You and your DH must be distraught over his father's illness. I wish you all peace as you travel that path. It must be hard for your DH not to be close now because of his new position.

The story of the car accident and loss of lives is very tragic. How can people take such great chances with their own life, much less the life of others? Young lives cut short. How senseless.

I am thinking of you, all the way over there on the other side of the globe.

I'm so sorry. You must be heartbroken. We'll be thinking about you.

I am so sorry to hear about this tragedy - it must be very painful for you, and I hope that you have loved ones by your side to help comfort you. I had to come to terms with my father's demise last year, and that was easier to deal with than the death of children.

DH's Dad slipped away late Thursday night, which I guess would be Thursday morning for most of you folks.

He went downhill _very_ quickly, DH had a chat with him Tuesday afternoon and he was still quite alert if weak. DD flew in with her fiance Wednesday night and saw him Thursday in what was likely his last lucid time: he couldn't talk but reacted to what she had to say and waved feebly when she left.

We went to see him later and while he had the odd lucid moment they were fleeting. The whole family gathered and my co-DIL and I stayed with and helped settle FIL who was somewhat fretful while DH, MIL and siblings made plans in the next room.

DH and I came home and about half an hour after we got here the phone rang. We're all sad to lose FIL (who I feel very privileged to have had as a FIL) but glad it wasn't a long drawn out process for him as it can't have been much fun.
