oh my Leslie, that's overwhelming.

I saw a woman on tv a few days ago. She had a tumor like that and finally found a doctor that would operate. She is doing very well now and her future looks good. I hope the docs can help your grandson too. Hugs for you.

I am so sorry to hear your news. I have a 15 y o GS and I can only imagine how I would feel. There are so many advances in medical science--I know 2 men that have had brain tumor surgery within the last month and they have healthy prognoses. You're in my prayers.

I am so so sorry to hear this! How horrible. I am hoping that the doctors find something that will help it to shrink quickly. You all have a very rough road ahead of you. I feel so bad for you. And to hear this just after returning from your uncles funeral, you poor thing. I bet your nerves are just shot.

Oh he's so cute! So sorry to hear about his tumor. They can do miraculous things these days though. My nephew was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer in his leg about 6 years ago and the doctor said they did all they could for him and he would have to have it amputated. They took him to the city of hope doctors the day before his operation was to take place for a second opinion and they said no way! They got him into their care and saved his leg and so far no cancer is left! He was in the hospital quite a bit for a year but it saved him. I say never give up hope! Keeping him in my thoughts and prayers.

Before beginning my reply I told my DH about Nathan, and we said a prayer for him right then as well as the rest of your family because we know exactly how afraid y'all are...we went through it with our oldest DS. He was nearly 30, had two children- one only 4 weeks old when he underwent surgery at Loma Linda Hospital near Riverside, CA. Surgeon said he was unable to "get" it all- much too close to the brain stem, and that it would return. We simply could not imagine how it could have happened to a healthy young man; asked the how's and why's & were told it could have been there since birth, a small child, exposure to toxic chemicals (to which he'd never had exposure- at least to our knowledge,) but there was really no way of
knowing for sure.

Four years later he called to tell us it had returned. We flew out again for the second operation, just sick with worry. GUESS WHAT???? 21 years have gone by, annual brain scans show NO sign of it!!!

Don't give up hope- all of you should earnestly try to think positive positive thoughts, and if you don't feel right about the first Neuro consult, get another opinion, and if still not pleased ask for copies of scan, x-rays, etc. and see another. If it could be managed all those years ago, consider how many wonderful techniques have been developed in the ensuing years.

We'll be lifting prayers for your handsome, beloved young man until you tell everyone things are alright. Meantime we'll ask that God hold y'all close & shower you with bountiful blessings.

Hoping for some better news this week from the DR's. He is young and strong and will have lots of friends and family to support him.

I'm so sorry Leslie. As someone who has had a brain tumor I know how scared you are. Do you know if the tumor is malignant? Does it have a name? I had a benign tumor called an Acoustic Neuroma. It was a slow growing tumor that was 3cm when they found it so it had to be there for a long time to get that big. It was "kissing" the brain stem (that's how one of the doctors decribed it.)

The best advice I can give you is don't rush into anything and do your homework. Since I don't know what kind of tumor your DGS is dealing with I can't help with that but will be glad to if you can provide a name. I opted for radiation because the surgery was so high-risk. I found that they could do one large dose of radiation which could cause collateral damage or a series of smaller doses to minimize or eliminate collateral damage. I went with the small doses called Fractionated Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Johns Hopkins. I had 5 treatments over a 5 day period. The only side effects were vomiting one day and I was very tired and slept alot for a few days. That was in March/April 2000 and I am fine. With radiation I was told the tumor would never go away completely but would die and not cause problems. That is what has happened. I had an MRI again last year and everything was great.

Now I don't know if Nate is candidate for FSR but it's worth looking into. They don't do this just everywhere - at least they didn't 8 years ago so you may have to look around for a place that does this.

I remember when they told my daughter they could see a mass in her brain and that they thought it was cancer...

I wish I could think of the songs name...it's on a Praise and Worship CD. Something about "you are God , My healer."
I used to sit at the dinning room table and listen to that and sing it from my heart. And pray...

Don't know what it was , but the second set of MRI's couldn't find anything.

Miracles still happen.
