I can tell you that we are not goign to be getting rid of the Platinum any time soon. However, even if the Platinum is eventually replaced in the line-up we will still continue to support, service, and carry parts for your platinum for the life of the machine. So, if you like the Platinum, I would say go ahead!

The differences:
The Platinum is exactly the same as our older Nexxt Premium model (WFMC6400UC). I spins up to 1200 rpm and has all the options in the LCD screen as the 700, but lacks a few features. It does not have the XXTRASANITARY cycle nor the AQUAGUARD. So if you really want the XXTRASANITARY I would recommend the Nexxt 500 Series in Silver.

i can't seem to locate the manual for the platinum anywhere on the site, so that's why i wasnt sure where that model stood in terms of service. i know it doesn't have the AQUAGUARD, but waterproofing clothing isn't something i need to worry about.

my husband says that instead of the XXTRASANITARY cycle the platinum will heat water up to 150deg with temp boost, and unlike the 500, the platinum allows you to do a 'quick cycle' of any kind of wash you program (meaning not just quick wash/warm but quick wash delicates/cottons. is this true? i couldnt find this information on the bosch website and im not sure if i'd be happy if EVERY wash was a 40min+ commitment. i just want to make sure i know what features i am and am not getting in the platinum.

The platinum's sanitary cycle is 155F vs. the 700's 170F. Yes, the temp boost cottons is 150F. Quick wash is available in all cycles.

However, in all fairness I feel a responsibility to mention that cycle times in frontloaders are traditionally longer. Most of your cycles will in fact be more than 40 min. In a full load on hot cotton cyles you'll probably go from about an hour to 45 min. with Quick wash option (depending on how "full" the load is). IF you do not want long cycle times and far better cleaning results, a front loader may not be right for you.

As much as it pains me to point out these facts, I think you need to be satisfied with what you buy, and the only way to do that is have reasonable expectations.

Hi. Regarding the platinum vs 700 series, you alluded to on another board that January 2007 was the time Bosch was to come out with the 700 series washer in platinum...in essence all the features if the 700 washer but in platinum. Can you update me on the possibility of this occurring?

Hmmm... takahwan this looks familiar from another board. The only planned launch for this year will come in June/July timeframe. There will be new products in the same price point. There will actually be a slightly new look for Bosch that combines silver and white body with chrome accent elements.

Yup...it's me on a few boards trying to track you down !! Was all excited about the possibility of a 700 platinum, but when Jan 07 came and went, and my appliance dealer had no idea, I thought I should go directly to the source....you !!

Do I purchase now, or wait until June/July and continue to do laundry at my moms home ?? Well at least this way I'll be considered a good son visiting her every week for the next few months !

What water temp is available for the quick wash on the Nexxt 500 washer. I see from this post you can do quick wash in all water temps on the 700- correct?
other than RPM's for spin cycle, what other advantages does the 700 have over the 500.

I believe the Quick Wash 25 on the 500 is 125* F

bsh_chris, can you confirm that the quick wash 25 is only in hot temp on the 500? i cant say that everything i would want to wash in 25 min i would want to do in hot water. i'd prefer if i am limited to only one water temp for this cycle it would be the warm cycle. does this mean that the delicate and hand cycles also wash only in hot since you cannot select a water temp in those modes(per the manual i was reading online)

Hello-
I visited Universal Appliance yesterday and saw the Bosch Platinum. After also seeing it at Expo without much explanation I knew that there was a 500 series and a 700 series. Is this the same as the platinum, or is that just a color and trim?
I asked the man at Universal if this was a 500 or 700 not understanding if that's the model with the platinum or w/o.
Can you clarify for me please?

One more thing, have people experienced a high rate of scratching on the control panel and the trim? The floor model certainly looked dinged up in their pristine showroom!

If you go to boschappliance.com, you can create 'compare' charts and print them out for careful perusal. Basically, all the Bosch Nexxts above 100 have a heater and all that changes are the menu selections. You can read up and decide which ones you want. I personally can't see using the Aquaguard (I think you add 'Scotchguard' and the machine refreshes waterproof clothing?) but since you have grandkids you might want stain removal features.

There are differnces between the 500, 700 and Platinum, and now the Plus line, they are not just trims.

Here ya go....if you come down to my area early on Friday, we can go to Lowe's instead of La Espanola....tough choice, eh?

I would caution you against buying the 700 series or the platinum series... From what I can see, they will become obsolete soon. The new line consists of the 800 series, 500 plus series and the 500 series. If you check the Bosch website, they already deleted the 700 and platinum from their list of dryers and only show the mew models along with the 500 series. I was told the new ones would be available in June, but then they were delayed till September due to better than expected sells of the existing models.

I'm personally waiting for the Bosch 500 Plus washer and dryer.......

Well, if compumom needs a washer right now, I don't see why she shouldn't go with the Nexxt 700. Bosch Chris reassured people on this forum that getting parts or service for the discontinued line won't be a problem.

welcome back. Do you happen to know why the 500 Plus uses more water than the 500? And why does the 800 uses the least amount of water? We have to wait until November to buy a w/d set anyway, so I am also considering the 500 Plus or the 800.

Great info guys! I'm not in a hurry to buy the washer or the dryer now, my machines still work. The washer is especially okay, the dryer sounds bad and isn't working perfectly.
Universal appliance didn't have anything but the Platinum on the floor. Expo had the 500 but there a leak in the ceiling (Ralph's Market is above them) and all 2 of the sales people were busy ordering the repair guys to fix it!
I can see I have my homework cut out for me. What about their stupidly expensive pedestals? Are they worth it? My back is rather nervous of all that bending.

Wow... I guess the people from Bosch must closely monitor this site!! Not long after I mention new products on their website, (dryers), they went ahead and change them back. I also mentioned on a deferent thread about a second website that showed all the new products and they locked that site from the public, you now need a username...

I agree it's ok to buy something that will be discontinued but then you would be better off to wait because: #1, they will probably have a LARGE price break and #2, parts may be available, but down the road it will always be harder to get parts for a discontinued product vs. a current product. I work for a color printer company and when a product becomes discontinued it becomes a fire sale with all the dealers. Support also becomes more difficult. And forget about getting any updates or improved parts, the new focus will be on the current and next model. The 700 series would concern me the most since itÂs only been out for about a year or so. It doesn't make sense to discontinue such a new model.

About the water usage, I saw a difference but I thought it was minimal. I am unable to look at more data since they pulled them from the two websites.

Did you know where you can still get more info on them? I decided against the 800 series due to it being "white and silver" that just doesn't sound right. So the 500 plus will be the one for me and I plan on getting pedestals even though there are a lot of threads saying they cause vibrations. I'm sure a place like Loews or Pacific Sales will return them if that is the case. Pacific Sales is returning an oven that ended up being too big for me with a full refund. Even with an open box and not to mention it's been it my garage for a year waiting for the kitchen to be done. I was pleasantly shocked when they told me that they will return it.

I guess you are right. If people aren't in an urgent need for a washer, it makes sense to wait until the new models come out. I still wouldn't hesitate to buy the Nexxt 500 since it looks as if they won't discontinue that one.

The new models are listed on the normal Bosch website when you click on "compare Nexxt". As a matter of fact, the 700 and the Platinum series are not available for a comparison anymore. The annual water consumption of the 500 Plus is listed at 5904 gallons...almost 400 gallons more than the 500. I am wondering if the 500 Plus does an additional rinse by default and the eco option would cut it back to two rinses? I just find it a little strange that the 800 supposedly just uses 5363 gallons of water per year.
I hope Bosch Chris will visit this forum again soon and comes up with some clarification.
