No Kinder Eggs in USA?

I just read the story below, on how Kinder eggs are banned in the US. I had no idea. Is this new?

These showed up in my Easter basket and Christmas stocking every year when I was a kid, and I continued the tradition with DS. I couldn't imagine Easter without them.

How strange. The toys in these eggs can't be the only small danger present in the lives of US children! Are all small toys banned?

thanks for all the compliments! I don't have anyone other than my DH that I can get critiques from and "oh, that's cool!" is not very constructive..grins. Kim: I forgot to add a drainage hole to this planter so will just use a pot to put inside it. I think I will use a small pot cause I like the inside color too! I am too chicken to try and drill a hole now. Power tools don't always agree with me...another story. Laurie

So why doesn't someone figure out how to put a small explosive inside the candy? I can't imagine a more heartwarming sight than a sudden POP of pink tinted fur. A couple of days ago I went outside to look at the plants. THREE of these critters were running all over my orchid cage. I ran screaming and yelling and waving my arms like a man possessed. Bev, you absolutely MUST go to the Butterfly Gardening forum. There is a lady on the forum (probably several), but one I know of for sure, who is a teacher, and is very active on the forum. If you tell them you are looking for seeds for a butterfly garden, you will absolutely be inundated. They LOVE to give and are so wonderful and joyous about sharing their love of butterflies and moths. Every question you or your friend has will be promptly answered. They are the most wonderful people I have ever met on the forums. They would almost have to be, to love and want to preserve some of our most beautiful creatures, wouldn't they? They will be so thrilled to help out. Please tell them that I sent you over there, and let them know why you're there. Tdogmom is one of the members, she is the teacher, and will have so many suggestions and ideas to help your friend out. This is so exciting. I love to hook people up with our butterfly group! I may even have some extra seeds they sent me for sure. Someone just sent me extra hairy indigo seeds, which is a host plant for the marine blue butterflies. I just checked the USGS website "Butterflies of North America". They have a map you can click on for your state, and it will list the butterflies that have been reported in your state by county. This butterfly, the Marine blue, has been reported in Texas, and it looks like possibly in the Lubbock area. Anyway, please go to the Butterfly Gardening forum and request seeds and info for your friend. They don't have an exchange yet, but tons of people will offer to send you some. Cool - we love adding people to the butterfly forum. If she is really interested in Monarchs, too, she can get her school designated as a Monarch Waystation, which is really cool. Susan

What are these small green round things? Seeds? Eggs? From what?

First, I have not acquired nor spread any such CRFs, anywhere, especially not around my trash can. Second, the trash can is kept in a secluded place next to the house. So, no one else would have access nor a reason to spread such CFRs on my property. Third, usually CFRs are solid so as to release over time. These are not CFRs. They have an egg-like, thin outer shell and the contents are an egg-like slimy, cloudy liquid. Release of liquid contents can not be time release controlled, it is all or nothing once the covering is breached. Forth, these things are buried and covered as a bunch of about 20-30 in a shallow hole in loose soil/yard debris, like an animal would lay and bury it's eggs. If they are eggs, generally, they should hatch in about 5-8 weeks. I have covered one bunch with a glass jar pressed into the soil to keep them contained if they hatch. I am curious if anyone can identify them at this time.

i used to buy them from a canadian dealer because they were actually banned years ago. he quit exporting them several years ago because they were cracking down then. my daughter lives in germany and because it seems the government is yet even more serious about the u s not having them, i have told her not to bring any on her trip next week. shame.....i have a bag full of toys, some over 10 yrs old......

Silly, because the toy half and the candy half are separate. There is no way even the most dimwitted child would eat the plastic half that contains the toy. Unless he also eats the plastic plunger of the push pop, the wax paper of the sour gummy roll, etc. I ate tons of Kinder Surprises several years ago, looking for the Vespa. I got it, and stopped. This was in Europe; I've never actually seen them in the US.

Huh. I have never heard of these before. They must have been either before or after my time, or my kids' time for Easter egg hunts.

January 2011- U.S. Customs Catches Canadian Woman Trying to Smuggle Chocolate Kinder Egg?

"When Lind Bird was recently stopped at the U.S. border and selected for a random search of her vehicle, she was surprised to learn that a $2 piece of candy could net her a whopping $300 fine. At issue was a Kinder Surprise egg a chocolate egg that contains a small plastic toy inside."

Our daughter and granddaughter are going to Germany this summer and meeting up with our son-in-law who is an officer serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in the Middle East. They lived in Germany for 4-1/2 years and would send us Kinder Eggs safely packed in egg cartons. We absolutely LOVED them!!! I sent her the link to the news story above and warned her not to bring back Kinder eggs.
