I've heard there's an ingredient in the mineral makeups that make some people break out. Just did a google trying to find out what it was, as I see you have a full list of ingredients there on your link.

Just because something is "organic" does not mean that you may not be allergic to it.

Start researching the common ingredients in cosmetics to avoid and go from there. If a product gives you a bad reaction note the ingredients and try to find a pattern to the reactions.

boop, I've been the same way--I *did* give up, though, for way too many years, because I just didn't want to take a chance breaking out again. EVERYTHING made me break out, it seemed. I've just started back, and through research and taking a chance I've found a few things that not only work, but work *amazingly* well and my skin is better than it ever has been. (The wrinkles are still there but much less prominent, and the rest of it is so smooth!).

My main go-tos now: 1) Burt's Bees Willowbark & peach (something) scrub--moisturizes while mildly exfoliating, and doesn't make me break out; 2) Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Toner--delicious stuff, and even though they say it's for oily/troubled skin it's not too much for my 49 y.o. skin, and it doesn't make me break out :); 3) Cosmetic Skin Solutions C E Ferulic Acid Serum--it's evidently a match for a much more expensive serum, but available through Amazon, and it doesn't make me break out :); 4) CSS Phyto + Gel, again a match for something else that clears up any little issues that might arise (not many anymore with the above elements) and is also helping with reducing brown spots, and 5) Korres Sugar Crystal multivitamin antioxidant treatment. Korres is a line from Greece, so it's not exactly local, but this stuff is so great I will deal with the energy use issues. It's an intense moisturizing treatment that is a bit sticky so I put it on at night about every other night. I also use Korres Evening Primrose eye cream at night too.

I found out about these things at truthinaging.com (the CSS serums -- I am eternally grateful to truthinaging for alerting me to them), and combined the results with reading reviews at Sephora. Never thought I'd be such a skincare hound because I've always had adult acne (not horrible but some) and it was then starting to combine with wrinkles which really made me depressed...but I'm finally in a place with products that make a *visible*, *touchable* difference and are really easy on the skin so I thought I'd share specifics. Hope they help!

(I also tried other products in the course of this search but they did make me break out, so I stopped them. I can tell within about 3 days whether something's going to be problematic. I feel like the dermatological canary in the coalmine, I'm so sensitive!)

Specific cosmetic recommendations don't always work for everyone. I know from experience that Burt's Bees lip balm makes my lips puff up. I know that Wexler works great for me but made my friend's face turn beet red and she felt like she was on fire. We both tried the samples at the same time. We both bought the 'starter kits'. As we continued shopping the rest of the day her face went fire red and puffy.

Some people swear by MaryKay yet one woman I know got cystic acne so bad from it that she had to start seeing a dermatologist.

There are plenty of review sites and websites where they publish the ingredients.

I totally agree with Dilly. Allergic reactions are just as common to natural products as synthetic. Ideally you would be able to identify what makes your skin react but with skincare products that are loaded up with "stuff" that could be difficult. That said, I will answer your question..

I havent used organic skincare but I have used cosmetics..

Aveda - when I last used their cosmetics, they were a little heavy for me but that was in my early 30s. I did love the taste of their lipsticks on my lips. I would try them again now in my mid 40s. I havent, but I would. I also used to love their hair products but they dried my hair out too much so I stopped using them.

Alba Botanica Terragloss for lips is my favorite everyday lip treatment. I love the texture and light shine. I do love gloss but at 45, crazy shine isnt appropriate. I have ordered some skincare products from them but have not used them as yet.

Pureology - not a skincare or cosmetic product but I love their vegan hair products. I use the hydrating conditioner. The scent of the shampoo bugs me so I don't use that-- it's very musky while the conditioner scent is minty herbal. They have expanded their line and I will likely try the root lift as well.

I agree, dilly -- I just thought that I would mention the ones that worked for me. There are plenty of others that don't (including anything with DMAE)and I wouldn't assume that these would, just a mention. Sorry!

No matter what, though, I would recommend against getting anything with parabens in it, which rules out the vast majority of products. There are certain toxic ingredients (parabens being one among others) that no one should put on their skin, whether or not it makes them break out.

I have a friend that has an organic skin care company with her husband. We had a chance to tour their place last month. They make all the infusions themselves and it was very interesting. I bought some of their products for myself and a friend, and as we were leaving my friend's husband told my DH that it looked like he could use a moisturizer. My husband hates lotions, but accepted a gift of their men's moisturizer. He has actually been using it daily, and about a week ago told me that he has noticed a difference in his skin!

Thanks all! I do realize that organic can still make me break out. I am trying to eat "cleaner" and I figured if I was going to start with new products, I would like to start with some with less chemicals. (then, if I happened to have another baby, I might not feel so compelled to give up the skin care while pregnant.)

I had been wondering squirrelheaven if maybe I developed a sudden problem with my mineral make up. I think I am going to try a differnt brand.

You might check with a dermatologist, if you have one, for a list of ingredients to avoid, known to cause skin problems. There might even be one available online.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some products do have a shelf life. If your stuff has been sitting for 9+5 months, some of it may have developed some bacteria, which could cause trouble.

I swear by Clarins, though some people are allergic to it....lots of botanicals which are potential trouble. The nice thing is that they have small tester sizes at the counters, so you can give anything a week-long audition.

Sephora also sells kits with large samples of different products. There's one with six different moisturizers in it for $18.50.

Find out the ingredients in the make-up before you buy it. Google for the explanation of each ingredient. Certain things like bismuth are known irritants.
