Comments (9)Thanks everyone ... I keep one of those little 7"x 4 1/2", six ring, loose leaf notebooks for all my camping and fishing references, and made a page with all your recommendations. Went to see the ole Doc for followup on some previous tests I've been going through and sprung this cracked thumb skin business on him. Although he's a general practioner and not a dermatologist, he did prescribe a moisturizing lotion with 12% lactic acid, called AmLactin, and says it's good for dry skin that is about to crack open; says to use it only on my thumbs and finder tips, especially around the nails and especially at bed time. He says for a everyday hand lotion, he personally likes "udder cream" that they use for the milking cows! Guess he's an old farm boy at heart! Anyway, found some of that at my local Wally-Mart and it's called "Udderly Smooth" and it was only $1.50 (4oz tube). Kinda like the stuff! Thanks again, Dale...See MoreFoundation for dry, aging skin?
Comments (6)Thank you for the response. Tee hee, no really you look like you are in your thirties to me! Just kidding. But you know, I've been using canola oil on my face for several months now. I have been eagerly waiting for my favorite squirt bottle to get empty so that I can refill with olive oil, funny you should say that. Recently I did get a sample of Oil of Olay Regenerist night cream, so I've been using it. I think the fumes make my eyes burn. Anyway, the sample bottle is now empty, so I will stick with the olive oil. Do you use anything over the top of your Bare Minerals foundation? I'd like to try their Mineral Veil but I think it might have a drying effect....See MoreMiddle age skin care
Comments (5)I'm 41 too. My skin is misbehaving as well. I saw some great reviews about this book, The Skin Type Solution, on a makeup board I frequent so I had to get it. It is well worth the purchase price! Based on a questionaire that you fill out, I found out I have Oily, Sensitive, Non-Pigmented, Tight skin. I am following her recommendations for my skin and so far, so good. I found out that my skin type does not take to facials or exfoliation well, too inflamatory. A washcloth is all I should use to exfoliate and anything with scrubbing particles should be avoided. I found a line of skin care (Eucerin Redness Relief) at Walgreens that is doing good things for my early rosacea symptoms. Here's a link to her website where you can browse for info and she even has forums for the different skin types. You can easily set up a regimen just for your skin spending as little or as much money as you wish with her product suggestions. And you can avoid spending money on stuff that can harm your skin.
