Foundation for dry, aging skin?

I am about to turn 50. My face is getting more dry by the minute, and well after all, it is a 50-year-old mug, so the normal wrinkling and sagging is happening.

I have been using Bare Minerals for a while now. It's okay, I suppose, but I can't really rave a whole lot, and it does make my face itch in the heat.

I'd like to stay with a powder type of foundation.

Can someone please tell me if there's one out there that's especially good for dry skin?

Hi-- I am 50+ and have been using Bare Minerals for about 4 years. My skin is dry. Have you thought about pumping up your moisturizing treatment at night? Wash face in mild cleanser. (one especially made for dry skin) Then put on extra virgin olive oil on face. I have always done this. (since I was in my 30's) I seems to me it is a good wrinkle reducer. Everyone always thinks I am younger than I am. Or maybe they are just flattering me????

Just kidding.
But you know, I've been using canola oil on my face for several months now. I have been eagerly waiting for my favorite squirt bottle to get empty so that I can refill with olive oil, funny you should say that.
Recently I did get a sample of Oil of Olay Regenerist night cream, so I've been using it. I think the fumes make my eyes burn. Anyway, the sample bottle is now empty, so I will stick with the olive oil.

Do you use anything over the top of your Bare Minerals foundation? I'd like to try their Mineral Veil but I think it might have a drying effect.

Thanks everyone ... I keep one of those little 7"x 4 1/2", six ring, loose leaf notebooks for all my camping and fishing references, and made a page with all your recommendations. Went to see the ole Doc for followup on some previous tests I've been going through and sprung this cracked thumb skin business on him. Although he's a general practioner and not a dermatologist, he did prescribe a moisturizing lotion with 12% lactic acid, called AmLactin, and says it's good for dry skin that is about to crack open; says to use it only on my thumbs and finder tips, especially around the nails and especially at bed time. He says for a everyday hand lotion, he personally likes "udder cream" that they use for the milking cows! Guess he's an old farm boy at heart! Anyway, found some of that at my local Wally-Mart and it's called "Udderly Smooth" and it was only $1.50 (4oz tube). Kinda like the stuff! Thanks again, Dale

I have such oily skin, it is so hard to deal with! Think I've tried every drugstore brand of foundation and they all feel so sticky and nasty. I read a review for the Kat Von D Tatoo Makeup that just came out. It's supposed to be super lasting and good for us oily girls. Am going to Sephora this weekend to get some samples. Last month I got a powder called Mattify Ultra which is really helping. It isnÃ¯Â¿Â½t a foundation (just a powder) but I use it under and over my Colortration Foundation. It stops me from having to do so many touch ups. There is one called Mattify Tinted which is like a powder foundation I guess. HavenÃ¯Â¿Â½t tried it yet but am curious. More makeup places need to come up with makeup that will stick to oily skin and stop the oiliness!!!

YES! Sun care is the most important thing. Once you have found that perfect sunblock for your skin, the rest is easy. I wish I had known this in my twenties and I could have saved my skin from a lot of environmental damage. browntoestoo, have you heard about this product called Meladerm? I SWEAR by this stuff. I used it to lighten some age spots on my hands and even my husband was shocked how much they faded. I know melasma and age spots are different, but I think meladerm is supposed to lighten all kinds of pigmentation. Also, my sister's doctor had given her a product called triluma for her melasma several years ago. I did help her a bit, but I think she was allergic to it so had to stop. You can also look into this. But I believe it requires a prescription. If you are looking for triluma, their website is www.triluma.com. The Meladerm website is from a company called Civant. Funky: I can commiserate. I have very dry skin and really have an issue once the temperature drops in the winter. I have used the more expensive brands, but go back to OTC Neutrogena moisturizers. I like the one called "Healthy Skin Face Lotion" and also the "Oil-Free Moisture". The Healthy Skin claims to reveal new skin 4 times faster than other moisturizers. They are also rated SPF15. Sometimes I wear under foundation or dry makeup and sometimes alone. My dermatologist recommended ROC (brand) sensitive night cream which has Retinol and is also OTC. I really like it and use it most nights. We do have a humidifier on our furnace, but I still have to cover my hands and feet in vaseline once or twice a week and sleep in socks. I don't have as much of an issue with my hair, but when I do I have used some homemade deep conditioners that have worked well.

Hi - I'm 49yrs. old and I'm a professional makeup artist - powder is the kiss of death for ageing skin - as I agree your skin regime is very important - powder is a drying agent - and shows all the lines on the face - try a tinted moisterizer or a base designed for mature skin - though the powder is easier to use - the liquid will give you better results. I hope this helps you.

suelahoo, regular exfoliating helps your skin absorb moisturizers better, I'm a firm believer in this. I use a liquid foundation and then use loose powder applied with a large fluffy brush sparingly at the end in order to lose some of the shine and seal the deal.

Hate to admit it, but I pretty much ignored my poor mug all these years. Now at 50 I'm trying to get educated and am even having a blast discovering how to actually use eye shadow!
