LG FL washer and dryer
Comments (24)And I knnow of toasters catching fire. I'm not singling them out. I suspect that the problems all came form one batch of some aprt supplied by another manufacturer or one person on the linew who needed another cup of coffee one morning and crossed wires. I imagine that it is somewhat isolated, limited to machines of a certain age and model, and that the new models in the stores now are at no greater risk than any other for having a problem. Still, it is troubling to hear that LG was not more concerned about the problem -- and to be fair, we are heaering one side of the story from unhappy folks. To also be fair, the final reason the LG 30" FD fridge got thrown out of consideration for our utility room was that we opened both fridge doors and DH said all those door shelevs in a narrow space were way too cluttered and cramped the opening. Comments (7)I have my front load dryer on a platform I built in a hurry. (Cousin was coming to help haul the dryer and it gave me an evening to design, get materials and build something.) I put down 8" concrete blocks and knew that wasn't going to be high enough. I was concerned about stacking two high without some construction adhesive between them and possibly some strapping around them. Plus I was concerned that 16" might be too high. I settled on one layer of blocks and built a wood pallet from 2x4s. That raised it about 14" and is about perfect for me. Looks? It's in the basement, who cares? For me, form follows function. I have space under it that I could even use a tote or something as a drawer for storage if I wanted. But I don't need it. It also has a hamper door so it works great for a folding table as I pull stuff out of the dryer. If I were to get a FL washer, I'd have to put something under it and the puny pedestals they sell aren't tall enough for me so I might be restricted to a top load if I ever have to replace my washer. Hopefully that's a long way off. BTW, if your hungup on looks, you could put something around it. Either build a surround of some sort, maybe a box of some sort to put over it, paint it, wallpaper it or decorate it how you want. Or put a cloth (or other material) skirt around it. As for the tech who works on it? Can't they use that sheet to just turn the unit rather than pull it out? Seems to me it'd be advantageous to have it up a little higher for less bending over. You could certainly have something custom built. But, if you can't build it and can't find a volunteer to do you a favor, hiring a cabinet maker or carpenter to build it, and make sure it's heavy enough to support the weight, well, that could well cost you the same money as buying pedestals....See MoreLimited to HD for new FL....need help b/w LG & Maytag FL
Comments (13)You hear good and bad about all brands. There's many happy LG owners posting on this forum. There's people who have had bad luck with all brands. That's called reality. A heater isn't truly mandatory in my opionion but I think it's a good idea as long as it works on enough cycles to be functional, and raises the temperature of the water, not just maintains the temperature. The Epics have gotten a lot of good reviews, and they should, they're Whirlpools and a proven design. Samsung does not build machines for them anymore - that's old information. I understand your budget concerns and I think you're looking at good models. I do like the suggestion of the Miele though. Now $2000 for the washer is a lot, but considering the amount of laundry you do, you can justify it. However, with any of them, I would suggest you consider NOT getting a matching dryer. Save the money there and put it toward the washer. A large (7.4+) CF Whirlpool dryer can be bought for about $400-$500 or less and they're excellent dryers. I bought mine for $300 and would buy it again in an instant. If you're going HE, and especially with a heater, you need to be prepared for long cycle times. 2-3 hours worth. It takes time to heat the water and the tumbling action needs more time to clean the clothes over an agitator. You sound sold on a FL so I won't suggest looking at the HE TLs. And I haven't found anyone who can give rational reasons for steam either in the washer or dryer. I think the word is "gimmick". If you have a laundry tub next to your washer, you can run the water in the tub to get the hot water close to the washer to have it warmer going into the tub. Keep in mind the tub itself will cool the water down. That's why a good heater could be valuable. But it's not the end all be all either. Advantage sometimes? Yes. Essential? No. People have washed and sanitized clothes for years without them. And as you're looking, get figures on water temperatures in degrees, not ambiguous terms like "hot", "warm" or "cold". What's hot to you may well be cold to me....See MoreDo we really need pedestals for FL w/d?
Comments (17)I know I'm late to the party, but maybe this will help someone else. I just purchased pedestals for my 4-year-old front load Samsung washer & dryer. The renewed desire for them started after recently using my son & family's W & D on pedestals and realizing what a pleasure it was to do laundry that way. - It might be worth noting: • I'm 4'10" "tall." Why, I thought 4 years ago, would I ever need to use pedestals at my height? However, I have had 4 years of dropping to my knees on our tile floor every time I have to take clothes out of the washer and put them in the dryer...and of course there's constant bending to put clothes in the washer and take them out of the dryer- even at this size. This is becoming increasingly more difficult as I get closer to age 60, with iffy knees and a bad lower back. • ALAS! I found a matching set of Samsung pedestals at my local PC *ichard clearance center (first time looking for them) for TWENTY DOLLARS each- and they're beautiful! How could anyone pass that up??! Even if the W & D were only to last another 3 years, it would still be worth what I paid for the pedestals. The sides have some denting & scratching of course, but the fronts are perfect. The damage won't be visible. I think pedestals (homemade, store bought, whatever) are almost a must for the sake of comfort when doing laundry....See Morefivefootzero
