I don't understand, I use the self clean on my oven all the time, why is it a problem? I've used the self clean feature on ovens my whole life too...

I know there have been some ovens, particularly KitchenAid, where the electronics on the cooktop would blow after a self clean. It was a major defect.

Just a little nervous about the cooktop electronics on the induction.

You don't have birds do you? I don't but it bothers me that something like that could be deadly to a bird - I don't want to inhale it. I clean mine with baking soda and water - rather than the self-cleaning. The steam clean sounds great though - I do not have that feature.

It is almost done. It says that the induction hobs cannot be turned on during the self clean.

I am able to have the vent hood on and the kitchen window open.

The self-clean on my oven does not require any cleaning agents - the high heat cooks everything off -- therefore, no fumes.

Right, gail, the self clean does not use chemicals but some people and birds can be senstive to the chemical burnoff. Still, it is much better than sticking my head in the oven to wipe off the "Easy Off" which is a misnomer.

Success! The burnt over pie filling came out clean, and I only had to wipe out a little bit of ash. I cooked dinner using the cooktop and oven, so no problems.

The steam clean feature is nice for when there is only a little dirt on the walls or oven bottom. It uses ~1 cup water and only runs for 20-30 min. Then once it cools you have to wipe out the excess water.

Gail I did not know about the teflon thing until something was posted on this board. It can be deadly to birds. As GS said, it has something to do with the high temp and the teflon. I really don't want to breathe it myself.

GS - in the next year or two we'll probably do a mini remodel in our kitchen and replace/update appliances. I'm definitely going to remember about the steam clean cycle. I like our appliances, but I do want to check out Samsung.

Too funny! I used the self-cleaning feature on Sunday for the 1st time.

I called my mom and asked her if I was going to die if I was home . . .she reminded me about the bird thing (we always had them growing up). Creepy.

My self clean oven intimidates the heck out of me. I have never used the feature.

Wow. It must be going around because I used the self clean on mine in the past week, too. Mine's just a gas oven, but it still scares me.

The digital touch pads on the front surface top of slide in ovens are what the vulnerable point is. They are sensitive to the amount of heat generated by the self clean.

If the digital is on the back console, it's usually not a problem, and if the range or oven predates all this digital stuff, it's generally not a problem.

Right, Pal, the induction hobs electronic controls are on the cooktop, so that was why I was a little nervous. The oven controls are on the back panel on the Samsung.

On all my old coiltops, I used the self-clean without fear.
