to stack or not to stack, that is the question

I've ordered a new washer and dryer set that can be stacked. I have plenty of room in the laundry to do either side by side or stacking. Obviously, stacking will get me a bit more floor space, but it's not badly needed. Are there any other benefits to stacking besides the extra room? How about negatives? I'll have no bending for the dryer, but I'll have to lift wet stuff in to the dryer. Right now I'm lifting out of a TL and loading into a FL dryer. I don't have any physical issues so it really isn't a big deal one way or the other.

We have the LG WM2688 & dryer
we didn't stack, more room on top of each for ?????

we also have 'em on pedestals (with drawers) on concrete floor.

I have two homes. In one I have a side-by-side laundry set-up under a counter, in the other, the laundry pair is stacked. As far as getting the laundry washed and dried, I don't find it any more difficult to deal with one set-up over the other.

I would say, however, a side-by-side set up gives you a large flat area for folding laundry after it comes out of the dryer -- a major convenience. When dealing with the stacked set, dry clothes have to be carried from the dryer to the kitchen counter or to the dining table for folding.

Thank you! Yes, I am definitely posting to avoid mistakes. I really would not like to give up my dream of a small shower. It's not just for my dog (a four month old black lab/cocker spaniel mix), but also for dirty/muddy/sandy kids and boots and shoes. I would use it all the time, honestly. There are a couple other inspiration photos out there. The one I posted was just one example. I plan on using a pre-formed shower basin bottom and it will help contain spills. This is how I would normally use the shower, but it needs to be a bit deeper and I would do without the bench. (from BHG) This is the type of basin I would use. It can be ordered in a variety of sizes. We would build a half-wall so it would only be open to the front. (from BHG) My original plan was to use the 32x32 shower basin to fit into the 36" wide space next to the sink. But now I'm thinking, why do I need two water sources right next to each other? I should get the 32x40 base and eliminate the sink altogether. That would give a lot more room in front of the W/D. Pros for stacking though are that we have 9' ceilings so going vertical is a better use of space, but a big con is what to do if the machines need maintenance? Or is that not an issue? Also, we have a whole house exhaust system (that small square vent near the ceiling), so venting is taken care of. Thank you for your help! Any more thoughts?

My He2t/He2 set is stacked. We had it this way from the beginning so I can't compare. I think I would have preferred getting them both on pedestials, but after shelling out as much as we did for the machines, spending a few hundred more on the pedestials seemed a little too hard to swallow. I do like that the dryer is at eye level (I'm about 5'4"), and I just pull the clothes out of there and into a basket to be folded. No stooping at all is required there. If they weren't stacked I'd have to bend over both for the washer and the dryer.

I have both of these ovens, though at opposite ends of the kitchen. I think they'll look fine for kitchen purposes, stacked, but it will be a functional look, rather than a particularly designed one, which means that it won't be the greatest in the position of interest. Not bad, but like a car with the hood up, showing the works. Suggestion--rather than "filler" put a shallow drawer between for the Advantium trays. That's something I learned from people before me here to make the Advantium more useful and convenient, even without the threat of filler. You could face the drawer with stainless to tie the ovens together, or do something decorative with it, or match it to the cabinetry. Another suggestion: Since you have the trim next to the ovens, maybe you could add some kind of doors or screens that will hide the ovens when they're not in use. Both ovens are pretty short, and, especially since you're tall, can be mounted higher than others. If you put them side by side in the pantry area they'd be conveniently located, and if you have them at chest height, which is good for tending them and pulling things out, you'll preserve a lot of your prime pantry storage. You'd lose the division line between the top and bottom cabinets matching the counter line, but it would work nicely. Also, you might see if you can change out your 30" combi-steam for the 24" one, if it's to be plumbed. They have exactly the same guts and cavity size. The 30" one is only that width to match the single, as in the picture (though I think only the 30" has the tank option). A really good option, however, to preserve your pantry design, would be to just say forget it, it's a kitchen, and let it look the way it's going to look to make it function well for you.

Those stacks are for looks only and shouldn't be used for a real dinner service. Of the plates, only the charger plate and the bread plate (which is not stacked, but is placed at the upper left of the setting) should be on the table before dinner starts. If you aren't concerned with being perfectly true to protocol, you could also have your plated salad, plated appetizer or soup bowl already atop the charger right before the guests are seated.

Depends on the space you have and and your preferences.

I have a pair of stacked FridGEmores. In my case, stacking the washer/dryer made room in the laundry area (can't really call it a room) for a dedicated table for folding. I used an inexpensive folding office table and extended the legs with PVC pipes to bring the folding surface up to waist height, so I can fold without bending over, even a little bit. Much easier on my back.

I don't like standing in front of machines to fold. Socks slip down between and I have to stand in front of the machine openings. Rather than one large folding area, I was dealing with two small folding areas.

What I like about the stacked pair much more than I expected is having the dryer at eye level. I tend to remove items one at a time to hang or fold right out of the dryer, sometimes removing certain damp items to finish drying while hanging. Being able to sort and "fiddle" with dry clothes as they come out of the dryer without bending has been very convenient. And I can SEE into the dryer to find the item I want.

By comparison, loading and unloading the washer is a much easier task that does not require sorting at the machine. Put the clothes in, take them out and move them up to the dryer opening. I don't mind bending for that quick task.

Just my preferences,
