No - sadly, my Valentine passed away almost 5 years ago, but when he was alive, it was a big deal for us, starting with sending cards every day for the week before. On the day, he cooked me a lovely dinner with filet mignon and shrimp on the menu, a blooming plant as a gift, and some 'quality' time together.

Now that he is no longer with me, it's just another day.

To tell you the truth, it's my least favorite holiday. I call it the "Hallmark Holiday". I've told this before, about how I gave Harry a card one year and instead of tossing it in the trash after Valentine's Day, I saved it and gave it to him the next year...and the next...and the next. :-) He never noticed!

I've never personally been a fan. Last year, I bought small presents in the after Christmas sales. I wrapped them up and then set them on the table with pretty dishes and made a nice meal. The kids thought that was fun so I may do something similar this year.

Kayjones, I think your tradition sounds sweet and lovely. You must miss him and these times. I also am one that thinks Valentine's Day is a Hallmark opportunity but think that people who make the day special for each other this way are fortunate .

My husband & I always say I love you not just on Valentine's Day. I love to cook & bake so I will make a special meal for him. This year it will be parmesan chicken with spag. gorgonzola salad, homemade bread & for dessert homemade tiramisu. The only cards I send is to the grandkids & great-grand boy

We don't observe this holiday - we just look at each other and say every day is valentine's day.

On her birthday I was going to make a cake for Jan, basically because I wanted to play around at decorating a cake, but she shot that idea down saying it wasn't on her diet...

Well diet be damned, I am gonna make her a valentines cake complete with red roses on it, and if she don't like it, I guess I will have to eat it to,,,,but I am going to make it anyway.

Patti43, You made me laugh. I've been giving my husband the same Valentine for 23 years. He doesn't know the difference. I also will make him a special dinner. He has given me a blooming pot of red tulips for 20 some years. I plant them in my yard so each spring I really enjoy my spectacular Valentine's Day tulips. So do my neighbors.

We always had heart-shaped meatloaf and I would make big heart-shaped cookies with the sayings that the little candies had on them like hug me, be mine, etc. After the kids were gone, I continued the tradition of the heart-shaped meatloaf for many years but not so much anymore. Maybe I'll do it this year.

DH and I ate through a tub of conversation heats and a tub of cinnamon heart jellies this past week. That's about it for us. LOL
