Just wondering who is going to a costume party tonight and what you are going as.

We just threw a halloween party last nite for 150+. I wore generic Hawaiian garb, which wasn't very original, but between dealing with unexpected sprinkling rain, quickly getting the decorations, table, chairs, and lighting in place, having more people attending (=less drinks/food than we needed), I didn't get to eat anything and drank only some mixed cider. Three pizzas were long gone. I left the music to someone else (and didn't recognise a song all nite!)

When the party's over (2:30am) we're left with Mudstock where our backyard used to be, indoor tables, chairs, and lights left outside, empty cups and plates everywhere, mud tracked into our apartment to use the only bathroom we have. Our apartment has never been so trashed...

I think I'll stick with other people's parties for awhile... Same fun, less work. Less money too. Just why do we throw parties at home again?

I will be at home waiting for Trick or Treaters. I made a second trip to buy candy when I heard the weather would be great. Now they are calling for rain. I could be in trouble.

luckygal..I don't know about writing fiction..although I did write lots of songs for my school for different occasions! (no one offered money for them though) lol Anyway, glad you enjoyed my fun table. I like fun stuff too although the kids like the 'horror stuff'..I'll pass. I'm with you on the spiders! Dom...thank you. He'll go back in the attic soon, but at least he had his '15 minutes' of fame.. LOL Those plates Are cute, and for $3.99 for all, a great price. jane

Actually the idea came to me some time ago: 1. A hot dog is a hot dog, itÃ¢ÂÂs a Ã¢ÂÂlow-rentÃ¢ÂÂ Ã¢ÂÂball-parkÃ¢ÂÂ food item even if you wrap bacon around it. How do you make a gourmet appetizer dog? 2. Hot dogs can taste good, but too much fat, and sodium. Of course you can cut a hot dog in half lengthwise, but you will lose a few friends that way. I needed a way of making a hot dog with less meat without making people feel that they are being cheated. 3. How do you make kids eat asparagus? So I came up with this idea, and developed a gadget to make the hot dog tubes precisely and quickly. Interestingly even with a lot of the meat removed, you still get the good feeling that you are eating a hot dog. When you serve it on homemade bun/bread, ------- that elevates the lowly weenie from an underdog to royal connoisseur appetizer status. I agree with Jo, there are other ways of using this concept. This opens up a lot possibilities of hot dog appetizer ideas. I can see all kinds of fillings you can inject inside the tube. The meat removed is not wasted. I found that it gives better texture and taste in making meat balls and meat loaf. dcarch

The party was a hit and so was my costume! We only made the deviled eggs and some Trick Or Treat Punch (frozen lemonade concentrate, orange powdered drink mix, and ginger ale and we cut up an orange to add to the pitcher). All the other food was delicious and a good time was had by all. Two of our guests didn't show up, but still it was a good time just catching up with old friends and got to meet some new people as well. Stay tuned for when I post pictures of me in costume! Well, sorta! Our new house is up a 3/4 mile trail on a ridge; DD#2 and her family are living with us. We have nowhere here to T-or-T, and can't imagine anyone finding us up here! So we're going to a friend's house in DD's former neighborhood -- carry-in -- 2 kinds of chili, plus sides. DD#1 will also be there, so 3 families with kids and 2 sets of grandparents . . . dads will take kids T-or-Treating while moms eat, then feed dads and kids when they return.

Costume? I'll just go as a loving grandma!

Lee, I'm exhausted just reading about your party!!

My dad's birthday is today and I hosted a family dinner for 15 last night;
I wore this charleston outfit and DD's black wig to greet them.

I had to remove all the garb to get dinner underway , it's hard to handle pyrex dishes wearing lace gloves and my boa must be drying up, I was leaving feathers everywhere, lol... it was fun to surprise everyone though.

We had a quiet family evening honoring our loved ones who have passed on; we chose not to do anything with our church-group-equivalent this year because I was tired of being the one to do all the work while everyone else just came along for the ride, and no one stepped up to take the reins.

Last night was Beggars Night in my city - they never do it on Halloween itself. I bought twice as much candy as I did last year and we still closed down an hour early. The weather was perfect for trick-or-treating: clear, no wind, not too cold (I remember too many years of trying to figure out Halloween costumes that would accomodate either longjohns and thick socks or winter coats, hats and mittens) which I think brought out more people for longer treks. I kept the dog quiet upstairs since all the traffic upsets him while DH manned the door. He loves to dress up - this year's theme was "the Vikings invade Scotland". LOL

Handed out candy tonight. Having our annual party next weekend, since most of our friends are trick or treating with their kids tonight. Our "kids" just barked a couple of times, they did great!

Only hitch of the night was a stray dog wandered up to us. Now I have to figure how to get him to the shelter ASAP. Luckily, I just delivered the foster dog this afternoon so my spare cage was empty. Otherwise I'd be in trouble!

I'll be a vampire this year.

My nephew got married last night and it was a Halloween wedding. It was a lot of fun and every one of the guests came in costume. The bride wore a beautiful traditional gown with a red velvet cape and she was Little Red Riding Hood, the groom was Wolfman complete with face paint. Her parents were monsters. The pictures are going to be pretty weird I'm sure! It sounds a little tacky, but it really was a lot of fun and the most different wedding I've ever been to.

I went as a 1950's lady with vintage fur, hat, gloves and glasses. DH had fun as Zorro.

This was my first Halloween in an in-town house. Some really cute little kids, some pre-teens in great costumes with makeup applied better than I can - LOL. Some scam artists - the two-baggers claiming they were collecting for a sick sibling. A few groups of older teens, rough looking, too old to be doing this. And my favorite, a cougar-bait Johnny Depp pirate.

Kitchenwitch that wedding sounds like a hoot and I would love to see pictures but I understand the privacy thing.
