Which thickener would you use...

for a fresh pureed strawberry sauce? I have a Strawberry Cake recipe which is almost awesome, except for the strawberry puree that goes on between the layers. There is a layer of icing that goes on top of that, then cake, and the process is repeated all over again. What I've found is the strawberry puree is allowing the layers to slide, which keeps this from being a 5-star recipe for me.

I'm wondering if using a thickener in the puree would be helpful and hope you can tell me what to use. I'm reading about ClearJel (can you believe I've never used this? but again, I'm not a pie maker).

Does anyone have an opinion for me on how to thicken the strawberry ''sauce'' for greater success? I might mention that I didn't really want to cook the puree too much, as the thing that makes it work so well is that it tastes so fresh. I'm willing to compromise somewhat if I can keep the darn layers from sliding!

(BTW, I made Beth's Glazed Sour Cream Cake into two 9 inch layers instead of a bundt cake, and wonder why I haven't done this before! It only took 20 minutes to bake, instead of the 40-50 minutes in a bundt pan. I've said it before, but what a great cake! Thanks again Beth. I had one Meyer Lemon from our potted lemon tree this year, and had to use it in something worthy of it. This cake is definitely IT. Rave reviews all around!)
