Nita has that cookbook and I read it while visiting with her. It's an awesome book.

I just went to Amazon.com to order 3 of the cookbooks, one for me and two for gifts. It would only allow me to order 2. So I didn't qualify for free shipping. :o( I ordered the two anyway.

I just ordered the Pioneer Woman's cookbook from Amazon...thanks for the great heads up, natal. I've tried some of her recipes and they've always been easy to work with and the results are excellent. Someone mentioned the Barefoot Contessa cookbooks, of which I have four. I know Costco carries them for around $20.00, which is a steal. I ordered mine from Amazon (under 25.00) because of the free shipping over $25 deal. I got the book and another small item to qualify for the free shipping but it's worth it. Barnes & Noble charges the full price, which is around $35.00...no thanks. The Barefoot Contessa books are a joy because she uses "normal" and easy to find ingredients and the recipes are written in a clear and concise manner. I've never had anything but good results from any of her recipes and she believes in cooking and entertaining with no stress ;o)

I also enjoyed the show & am pleased with the outcome. Am I the only one that thought Bobby looked very tired & not quite himself? I know he's been on a book tour for 'Throwdown' & I don't know when the show was filmed so, hopefully, he was just exhausted & not ill. I loved the pommegranite seeds, thought they looked beautiful & I love those things. It was a favorite holiday treat in my stocking as a kid. I'd make such a mess eating them! :) /tricia

Veer, the 'Red Barn' murder was the subject of a very early silent movie, so it must have been a familiar tale up until the early 1900s. Your Heyer anecdote made me laugh. It reminds me of a similar experience when I bought my very old paperback copy of Peyton Place at a book sale. The ladies taking my money twittered naughtily and one told me how when she was a girl she had to hide her copy in the garage so her mother would not catch her reading it. Alas, though a good (though not distinguished) cook I have yet to back a single loaf of bread. My sense of David's books is that they are filled with fascinating food history, even if some of the recipes are a bit esoteric for contemporary cooks. I have a battered copy of her fascinating slim book Spices, Salt and Aromatics in the English Kitchen. I love reading it, but it is not likely that I will be spicing and curing my own mutton in the foreseeable future.

I preordered that book on Amazon.com on September 12, and received a First Edition of it. I paid $13.32. Think I'll order another one now... it won't be a First Edition, so I'll use that one in the kitchen and won't worry about messing it up!

I love her web site. She has the best sense of humor and fun contests, too.

BOMC2 (Book of the Month Club) has it for $9.99 plus shipping or tax, not sure what it is added on. I belong and it comes to about $10.25 or so. However, my granddaughter stood in line for 4 hours at Mall of America (MN) and gave me an autographed copy for Christmas, so I imagine she paid a lot more for it. She had her picture taken with PW, so I pasted a copy of it at the front of the book.

I pre-ordered 2. One for myself and one for DD. Gave DD one for Christmas and she gave me one. I immediately (before I opened it) re-gifted it to her MIL. DH fixed her lasagne last week and it was the best I have ever had! He did make 2 changes. He didn't have any sausage so he left it out and recipe called for cottage and he had ricotta.

I have used several of her recipes from the website and have never been disappointed. I just love her.
