Comments (8)Oh Teppy! Send some rain our way.... I believe we go to Stage III water restrictions next week. We haven't seen rain in a very long time, at least not enough to make a difference... I actually put up a rain gauge in hope of appeasing the rain gods yesterday. Ha ha! I am actually contemplating moving my backwash hose around the yard to water as we won't be able to water but once every other week, no hand watering allowed at all either... Ah, the joys of living south.... Wouldn't change it if I could though, I love this town!!!! wvgirl- sending our heat your way... jjnc- I seriously contemplating going solar, just trying to sell hubby on it as well....See MoreReminder during the HOT HOT HOT weather we're having
Comments (5)Bowl emptier could be a raccoon. For the first time in daylight, I saw one about noon yesterday. Large, walking along the perimeter wooden fence until the neighbor's yard. I figured he was going for a drink in her many ground bird baths... but she was busy scrubbing them out. About 3 pm he appeared at one of my table birdbath dishes, standing with his hind legs up on the tree trunk behind, and his paws on the table... I think he was familiar with this dish! (And then he spent a long time nearby digging in the leaves for uneaten birdseed thrown earlier.) I had suspected raccoons were pursuing water in my yard at night, from the overturned containers. Like you said, DG, we are in the midst of a SCORCHER! Thankfully the alligators don't need to hunt for water!...See Morehow should I heat my pool and hot tub-in Ohio weather
Comments (3)Our pool/spa combos share equipment. We use Jandy automated systems on all our builds and reno's. I have clients that have us winterize their pool and they will extend the spa use maybe until December. Our preference is a gas fired heater. Heat pumps require lots of electric power to operate and their foot print is giant. Things to consider for winter use. Read the manufacturers warranty regarding use at certain ambient temperatures. Some say explicitly not to operate below certain temps as warranties will not cover damaged goods. We ALWAYS strongly suggest a generator in the event of a power loss during frigid temps. Equipment and piping can freeze up very quickly when temps are well below freezing. I have witnessed this and have made the expensive repairs. We use salt systems in seson but you can manually adjust chems in the spa with small amounts of liquid chlorine and other required chems after the pool is winterized. An automatic cover or a solar cover is suggested to minimize heat loss. It will cost a bundle to operate in the winter no matter what your heat source. Plus, picture yourself shoveling snow for a pathway to your pool or spa. I give this scenario to clients every time when asked about running through the winter. Some food for thought....See MoreWhere should I place a hot tub?
Comments (5)Thanks, @Yardvaark and @Tara for taking time to check this out. I definitely would like to get it by the house, but I don't think there is a spot for it. I don't want it to be blocking a view from our screened in porch either. The real picture is a bit misleading as it's giving a confusing perspective in regards to the porch. The porch is an extension of the house. It's not contained within the footprint of the house. Also, the drawings weren't really to scale. The hot tub pad will be 10x10 while the pergola is only 7x9. But none if it is to true scale. We don't want to put it under the pergola as we have a really nice seating area under there that we want to keep. The other idea I had was to take the privacy fence along the side of our house and push it back about 8 feet towards the front of the house. Then the hot tub could go here. The advantages are that it would be closer to the house which would be nice for the winter! However, it would be a bit tucked away and I feel it might be too sandwiched between the fence and the house for my liking....See Moresaltcedar
