Do you take pictures of your food?

This article/poll on Serious Eats seems to have written just for the Cooking Forum! I know that you have to register to vote in the poll, but I suspect that if all the photographers here responded, the poll will be an overwhelming YES!

Note: I do not even own a camera, so I'm not one to vote, but I hope the rest of you get a kick out of this.

I would like to take pictures of my food. But by the time I finish making dinner the two boys are usually so hungry they won't wait! :-) I take pictures of the food little man makes, just to keep them for his future girlfriend/wife to see! LOL

C'mon - don't play that card, Preston. It has nothing to do with what route you choose, and everything to do with the absolute statements you made. I could have been blunt and said that because I and others are able to grow perfectly hale plants using MG as their fertilizer of choice, that it definitely IS grower error, but I took a softer approach. The fact is that your reasoning was faulty and your statements incorrect. Pointing that out is not insulting you. If you hadn't made the brash statements, I wouldn't have been inclined to comment. People disagree with me all the time and it usually gets no comment, but when you disagree and use faulty logic and statements you can't support, then you ask for what you put forward to be called into question - I'm sorry if you're offended, but please don't blame me for pointing to the obvious holes in what you said. When you blame MG for your "gardening nightmares" when dozens here are absolutely certain that you can use MG and be completely nightmare free, it's reasonable to assume you're wrong. Instead of blaming me for what you said, you might explain why MG is any more likely than organic forms of N (like blood meal, e.g.) to "make plants grow so fast that the cell walls are too thin, causing the plant to become weak and the insects would start a feast." Again, if you over-fertilize with ANY fertilizer, it's 'grower error', not the fertilizer's fault. The fact is - if you cannot grow perfectly happy/healthy plants with MG it's your problem, not the fertilizer's. If you'll notice, I never questioned your recommendations, allowing you your opinions re product recommendations - even though I strongly disagree with them; but, when you make statements and assumptions that are absolutely, positively false, you're going to hear the other side of the story. If you want to step up to the plate and make a case for what you said, you have the floor. BTW - you added the part about "chemical free fruit" which is another whole issue and not part of what I initially questioned, though I would have because there is no clear evidence on which to base that line of thinking. I also have never seen refrigerators that did not have reversible doors, and they are quite easy to change, although it does require two people and possibly a special type of Allen wrench - like the star-shaped ones. My fridge has French doors on top, a central drawer (which I love) for meats and cheese, and then a bottom drawer for the freezer, which I don't especially like, but it does have two small upper drawers for things that are used often, and that's what I use the most. I have a small counter between the fridge and the stove, but most often I put foo on the peninsula, which is close enough to the fridge, but not so close to the stove/oven that I cannot use a large pizza peel with the oven.

Marie, I make up for your lack of pictures. Here it seems like even the most pitiful marigold gets its own photoshoot! Once I caught someone who stopped to take a picture -they probably didn't see me crouched down behind some ornamental grass (weeding of course, not just randomly hiding). I was way too excited showed them around, and invited them over to look at the side yard.... They said a few nice things, took a few more pictures, and then escaped as soon as they could. I was just about to grab empty pots and a shovel so I could dig things for them, obviously I have problems reading people as soon as the subject of plants comes up.

I do clean the room and try to remove items I imagine no one really wants to see (remotes, morning coffee mug, etc) and tidy up a bit. I do the same if anyone is coming over: a quick vauum, dust, pick up random items that are out of place. I guess my feeling is that sharing a photo of my home with anyone is similar to inviting them into my home. I want them to see it in its best light, not with dog hair on the sofa, throw blankets crumpled up, or the half dozen toys my dog has brought out in the last 45 minutes. At the same time, I can absolutely look past these things in most photos for discussions on this site. A few toys out or random items isn't really a problem. Though sometimes in kitchen discussions the countertops are completely covered or a living room discussion has toys and equipment for children everywhere and makes it difficult to asses the space.

Yes, I do. Sometimes. I even take pictures of food in restaurants sometimes, but only my own and not anyone else's!

Yes (besides taking pics of pornographic vegetables :) I take pictures of every recipe experiment I make. Many contests now require a photo with your entry; everybody else goes ahead and eats . . . my food is always cold by the time I get done fiddling with the 'shoot', lol.

Sometimes. We've done it for years. It started as s joke almost 15 years ago. My sister would always manage to call us at dinner time (that time zone amnesia thing). When she realized we were cooking or having dinner, she, very much a non-cook, would say, "I wish I had some." So we started taking pictures, making them into postcards, and sending them to her every so often.

Too bad digital cameras weren't around then. It would have been easier (and cheaper.)

Yup. My daughter does too (she is 14). Even my little guy (age 9) took pictures of his pancake breakfast.

I love playing with my camera! And taking pictures to share here, or on my blog. But I'm happiest going to a restaurant just to relax and enjoy the food. Not to worry about the lighting, camera settings, etc.

I'll confess, I tried to get up the nerve to snap a few pictures once, but chickened out as we approached the establishment, and I left my camera in the car.

The food paparazzi's 'Click' obsession is pretty insignificant to me though...as long as they leave my plate alone [G]

About the most intrusive crap I've ever been subjected to, while dining out, was when a loudmouth patron felt compelled to share his hernia operation with a room full of strangers. Every customer within earshot had to endure the graphic details of this guy's surgery, while trying to enjoy their meal.
Needless to say, we all wanted to whump him upside his mangy little head.

Sol, that's when you walk over with your cell phone and ask him to speak into it because you want to record it to blog about later.

People taking pics in restaurants don't bother me as long as they leave me out of the picture and use a little courtesy with the flash.
