Anyone have experience with PVCS and general anesthesia?

Hi everyone,

I have a knee scope coming up this Thursday, and I'm concerned about the anesthesia. Although I've had successful surgeries in the past, it's been a long time (in my 40 now), and since then, I have developed preventricular contractions. My pulse and blood pressure are quite low, as I am an avid distance runner. I am also sensitive to medications. I had a life threatening reaction once. So I worry that some new med given interoperatively could harm me.

Just some jitters before surgery. I will be talking to the anesthesiologist this week. Local is not an option, but spinal or general are.

Does anyone have experience with the PVCS and general anesthesia?

It's never been an issue with me!

I'm kinda prone to "Lone-A-fib". PVC's are just part of the deal for me. I've learned over the recent years with my Dr.'s that they're totally benign, and CANNOT hurt me. I don't like them, but they're just a "normal nuisance" for me! After a couple seconds, they're gone. No problem.

I've been under "general" 3 times recently...My large Inguinal-Hernia surgery in 9-2010; & 2 leg-vein surgeries in Nov. 2012. Aaaaannnd....my new left-knee coming-up on 9/26!

NO issues for me at all!

Just ask a lot of questions at your consult!

The best advice I can give is this...when you talk to the anesthesiologist, be totally honest about your fears of anesthesia.

Be specific. If your specific fear is irregular heartbeats and how they will deal with this issue then make this clear so that he/she can put your mind at ease.

Whatever the "life threatening reaction" was, he needs to know about it. Was it a b/p issue under anesthesia?

Write your fear/questions down so that he/she can see that you want to discuss these issues and not just have him give you false reassurances and skip out of the room leaving you with unanswered questions.

Just to set your mind at ease..if you are an avid runner then it sounds like you are probably pretty healthy. You probably already know that PVCs are not uncommon even in healthy people.

I'm not crazy about anesthesia either. The narcotics always make me sick.

What kind of trees are you planting, and what size? Keep in mind that trees have surface roots you need to encourage and water too. And your goal is to get the tree to root deep AND wide, not just near the pipe. That pipe works well for big palm trees, but it's a waste of time for almost everything else. You would do better with some terracing between trees. You don't need anything elaborate, just a berm on the downhill side to retain water at the canopy line. They do better with 100% native soil, with the "organics" applied as a mulch to retain water. If they have a cushy moist soil, the roots tend to stay in that area and they fall over in the first high wind. *Dig hole just as deep as the tree root mass and about 2-3x as wide *Fill hole with water and let it drain *Repeat the water filling and draining (water UNDER the root mass to lure them down) *Plant tree, backfilling with native dirt from the hole *Water entire area of hole thoroughly, add dirt if it sinks. *Mulch When you water, apply water between where the rootball is and the edge of the hole. You want moist soil there to lure the roots.

Hi. I work for NORDYNE, the company that makes the R6GI. It's a solid system, but if your contractor isn't comfortable with it, I wouldn't force him to get it for you. It uses an inverter, which is what makes it so quiet and so efficient, but that can be a difficult install for someone who isn't familiar with inverter-driven systems. A lot goes into installing all HVAC systems, and a bad install will ruin the best system. We always advise homeowners to choose the most capable contractor and then go with the equipment he's most comfortable with because the install will go smoother that way. I recently installed a tankless water heater to get rid of a tank heater that was near its end of life and had issues with placement. The tankless water heater hangs on a wall and is easily accessible. I had some unique requirements. I wanted to be able to run as many things at one time as possible. I live in a ranch style home and with the tank heater, I never had hot water in my master bathroom sink. I did not expect a tankless water heater to change that. I had tried a recirculation system and it did not work because of the layout of my pipes. About 3yrs ago, I purchased point of use heaters for the bathroom sinks so I could have hot water. I had concerns about the tankless but really did not have anywhere to put a tanked system in my home. I bought a Rinnai RUR98i. It is rated at over 9gpm and has a built in recirculation unit. I have never thought I would love a water heater. I set the timer for the recirculation and always have hot water in my master bathroom sink. It takes about 5secs for the shower to get hot. I have been using the tankless water heater for about 1month now. I have not received my gas bill yet so don't really know how much I am saving. My home has three bathrooms and we have run two showers simultaneously with the dishwasher and washer running at the same time. I have not experienced a cold water sandwich as often referred to. I live in cold weather so I will have to see how the unit behaves once the incoming water temperature drops. I already have water saving appliances. My grohe and hangrohe shower heads are 2.5gpm max. My washer heats its own water as needed. I plan to replace my dishwasher soon and will connect the new one to cold water only. My current dishwasher is connected to hot water and does not really need it. The post is long winded but I wanted to let you know that Tankless heaters have come a long way since I started researching them five years ago. Noritz makes some units that go above 10gpm. Does anyone have any experience with Steamspa brand steam generators?

I did decide to go with the SteamSpa. The unit has just been in use for about a month, and we've used it 5-10 times so far. So far, so good! It is quiet and starts up quickly. I like that it has a reservoir in the steam head for my essential oils, so I don't need an accessory part. Time will tell, but we are very happy with it so far.

I used to get very nauseous after anesthesia. Very. Now there is medication they can give prior to surgery for that. And my family physician discovered I have pvc's when I was about your age. I am also a runner. My doc had me cut back on caffeine, so we did, switching to half-caff almost every day. I always mention this and anything else, including meds of course before any procedure. I also have low bp, am slow to wake up after anesthesia, so I always tell them but the nurses always act surprised during post-op.

Whatever your 'life threatening reaction' was, did it conclusively have to do with your bp or the general anesthesia?

Anyone have experience with PVCS and general anesthesia?
