If it wasn't for bad luck....would she have any???

About a month ago I told you about my daughter's lap top dieing...she had bought expensive insurance which was still in effect. They of course found a loop hole to not pay and wanted more than the insurance cost to fix it.

She got money from her husbands grandparents for Christmas..She decided to buy a netbook with it.

She takes her laptop to work with her because she has a lot of time with nothing to do.

This morning she had her purse,laptop bag on her arm and a fountain pop in her hand. She slipped on the ice in the parking lot at work and fell. Her pop hit the ground and her chin hit the top of the pop, cut it a little but nothing bad.Both knees of her scrubs are muddy and her knees are stinging. She gets up and walks into work. The pop (one of those plastic cups) had gotten a hole in it when she fell and she didn't know it. About half the cup of pop leaked into her laptop bag.

The laptop will not work.

I feel so bad for her.

She is such a good person and would do anything for anybody.

Tell her to check her Homeowners insurance. It might be covered because it is her personal property and you have coverage for personal property. There is a deductible you would have to consider and without knowing where she lives, some companies have exclusions. It can't hurt to just call the insurance company and find out. Good Luck!!

I wonder if her work's insurance might not cover her.....worth an ask?

It's true - we are desperate for the sun.......we immediately flock to a public park, get down to our vests and stretch out like basking sharks (in March, if we get a chance). I am old enough to recall liberty bodices - sort of felted undergarments which we wore from November through to Easter. Melissa, the soil, when I get to it, is truly remarkable....the only thing is the acres of ivy crossing and recrossing every inch of ground.....along with the vicious brambles (although mulching head of the brushcutter is sorting that). Oh yeah, those nettles which cover every inch between the ivy vines.........it's going to be a long job.....but as soon as the spade cuts through the top layer of vine and root, it sinks into the earth like a huge downy pillow - tantalisingly out of reach but there still, waiting for many hands to start the ivy pulling and rakeover (off again later today and taking my boys (men) to help. Nik, we are all turning our eyes east to Europe these days and shivering in the chill winds of emerging fascism. We have 2 strands of this in the UK - the crazy but delusional UKIP (no immigrants...and a whole slew of other, less publicised goals) and the horrific coalition of thugs and hate-mongers which comprises the EDL and assorted racist bullies.Truly hope all is well for you and yours. Daisy, I surely will take pics....but 2500, while it sounds a lot, is actually hardly anything when spread around 5 acres. With an eye to establishing colonies, the bulbs have been planted in groups of 100 or so, spread around the woodland - it will be a start but I expect to be waiting at least 5 years before we really have something worth looking at.

I love the scent! Where I work, they have two clumps growing, and they smell so nice, and they are so pretty. They reseeded themselves in the mulch, so I dug out the babies and brought them home. Last summer, when they went to seed, I collected some seeds and winter sowed them, and they sprouted quite nicely. So now I have them in two beds, assuming the dang squirrels don't dig them up. Hopefully, next year they'll be nice little mounds and have those wonderfully scented flowers. Karen

Thank you all. I come from a rather peculiar family in some ways. As semi-Christian Scientists little has ever been made of the passing of a family member's corporeal being. I have never attended a funeral for a family member. Ever, really. Cremations are common and ashes are scattered. Oddly my mother has never called me to tell of any of this, even that Dave passed away. As a dutiful child I made a call to the care-giver's number and asked to speak with my mother. Request denied. I then had a strange conversation with her about Dave's death and that in her words it was "time for Dave to go to heaven" and found myself speaking in those quiet careful tones one reserves for someone holding a gun or sitting on a ledge. So I quickly asked her to give my regards and condolences to my mother and to tell her that I'd love to hear from her when she is able to speak. Duty fulfilled, sort of. The caregiver called my sister a few moments later and wanted to know why I would call my mother there. Sis explained that it was the right thing to do. (Thank you, Sis, for being the rational being you are.) There is to be a memorial service on November 1, All Saint's Day. Since my family is neither Catholic nor religious this escapes me but I suspect it the wishes of the caregiver. Sis says there will be lots of marigolds... I probably will not travel for the memorial but will send whatever seems appropriate or is requested. I told Sis I would go if she needs me there. Dave was a patient and kind man. Sis inherited his easy temperament and wise way. I didn't know him well but learned to appreciate him as an adult. We believe Dave escaped. Finally.

Thank you for the complement Chess. Joseph went out on the callback on his own dime. I can't speak for him, but I can't start the truck for less than $100, so those sort of callbacks have a financial impact. I don't mind going on a callback where my product or workmanship was the issue. It's enjoyable to find and nut out the issue, but at the same time frustrating to get a call back on something that was not my fault, knowing that I won't get paid for the analysis. The detective work is fun and challenging. What I absolutely abhor is another contractor who won't take responsibility for his/her own work and finds it more convenient to push the blame onto related work by another contractor. I've had this occur to me more than a few times and it gets my blood boiling.

Her boss told her he'd buy her a new pop but not a
"blank en" computer. She said he's being a jerk today.

He can be a jerk..but he lets her work only three and a half days a week, so she can be at home when her kids are. He really is pretty good to her.

Ice is evil. Get her some of those things which stick on shoes and grip the ice. I'm so sorry. But the most important thing is ok--your DD, right?

Ah shoot!!
Can she check with the computer place she got it from. Maybe they can take it apart and clean it up for her. If it was in the case I bet its only a drop or two of pop that got in it.
Its worth checking into anyway.

What is wrong with the laptop? That might be repairable. Netbooks are so cheap now that it's not worth putting much into a couple hundred dollar unit. Although a lot of notebooks aren't much more than that either.

I doubt that the homeowners will cover it. I don't see how it could be covered. But one tip. If you're going to call, then call your AGENT, not the company and ask the agent IF it would be covered under this type of situation. If you call the company itself, many will list you as filing a claim. Whether it's paid or not won't matter, but you'll have a mark in your claims record. A couple friends of mine found that out the hard way.

And I realize you're upset about this now, but in a while you'll be able to laugh at the boss's joke. It really is humorous.

The screen on my daughters MacBook cracked,it cost her $700 to get it fixed.
