Freezer cookie dough

Hi I was cleaning out my freezer and found two sealed containers of commercial cookie dough. It is at least two years old. There wasn't even ice crystals on the inside of the container. Are these still safe to bake up, or should they be tossed?

pop one or two in the toaster oven and see how they taste. that's what i would do. i'm all for giving things a chance LOL

That's what I would do too, bake some and see how they are.
Not much to lose if they don't taste good after baking.

Tish, I'm betting that WOULD be good in ice cream, for those that like cookie dough ice cream. Now we're going to have to try that, you know. LindaC, she does look just like her mother. And Madi looks just like HER mother. It's kind of scary, I'm not sure the world is ready for duplicates of my girls, LOL. CC, how is that baby doing? And everyone else in the family? Linda, she's taller than me now, and going into 8th grade. It just doesn't seem right. She has a Pinterest account and her Dad checked her computer history and laughed, says all she does is look at Pinterest, clothes and recipes. (grin) Pam, she loves to cook, and I'm glad to help her, or have her help. We're working on Madi, she's coming along. Maci is like Bud, those two just want to be the tasters. How long can keep defrosted cookie dough in the refrigerator? And nuts

I agree. The first to go would be the butter and the fat in the nuts going rancid. How long can you keep butter? Being mixed up it probably wouldn't last as long as a block of butter, but if it's airtight it should last at least a week, probably longer. Because you don't know what bacteria might be in it just from mixing and packing, it's important not to sample it raw. Bake it up when you can, and freeze the extra cookies if you can find the space.

I think it will be fine...the cocoa will likely absorb moisture from the dough as it freezes, then thaws, and then disappear as the dough is molded or rolled and baked.

Yes, I also say bake 'em. I think commercial cookie dough probably has a zillion preservatives in it anyway, but if it's frozen it should still be safe, I think quality would be the only issue.

Thanks guys. I did bake them and they tasted fine. While I was waiting for someone to reply I ended up phoning the company which happens to be local. They said the same as all of you. Quality would be the only issue. The guy told me they might not spread, due to loss of moisture. He was right. They held their shape but did flatten when cooled and were nice and moist and soft inside.
