I'm glad you had a successful trip!

Brings back memories. When I worked mid-town, I always stayed at Grand Central Hyatt so I could walk to the office via the Grand Central Market. Gelato at Ciao Bella, morning pastry at Corrado's, Murray's Cheese, it was endless

That Vietnamese cassia is like no other...and can't even think of using anything else....

Grand Central Market is a nice walk-through, isn't it? If you thought they had a lot to choose from you should get to a "real" store sometime! Glad you had fun.

I'm also glad you had a good time, I love having the "brick and mortor" store so I can sniff everything.

And, like LindaC, I'm nearly out of that Vietnamese cinnamon, I just love the stuff.

One day I hope to get to a real store, but I'll take GCS for now. I'm gonna hold off on another field trip until after the kitchen is done and I figure out where the seasonings will live.

Oh yeah I love Penzey's! I just got a notice in the mail that they are going to expand the one here. Going to shut the store down for a week and then open bigger and better in the same location. I can't wait to go visit and see the changes. I love sniffing everything too!

I will be there checking out the new store too. I wonder how much larger it will be and how different. Part of me wishes they'd opened a second store, but I guess as long as people like me drive down there, they will make do with one store. I started buying from them out of a catalog before there were any stores less than 100 miles from me, so I will make do too.

If it's anything worth writing about I'll post after I visit. How far away are you?

I'm up in The Woodlands area. I generally make the pilgrimage at least twice a year -- once for holiday baking and gifts and once to top off anything needed for canning and grilling season. I think I have a couple things I need soon, so I probably won't be too long. DH would be really upset if I let his favorite pepper grinder run dry.

Well, if you lmk next time you're coming down, maybe I can meet you. I live about 20 min away and work about 10 min away. I usually venture over on my lunch time and hit Carter & Cooley's sandwich shop for a bite - it's just down the street.

That's usually a good time for me - I have to get back before the kids are out of school.

May, when are they doing all this? Can't wait to see it.

I can't remember the exact dates but very soon. Like maybe starting this week I think. I want to say April 7 - 14. I may be off by a few days but I'm close.

If it works out we can have a Houston GT there to see the new store! LOL

Oh, and I should have said, if you don't already receive their catalog, sign up. There is almost always a coupon for something free. Last time it was $5 off a $10 purchase. Recently I've gotten free cajun spice, cinnamon, and ground pepper. And they honor expired coupons and multiples. My son gets a catalog at my address but he's in NY for school so I always get him his freebie too when I go. He cooks a lot and loves Penzey's as much as I do.

I do get the catalog -- I have a couple of coupons in my wallet. The most recent and the one from Thanksgiving. They's been out of the Bicentennial Rub each of the 2 or 3 times I've been down there, but they said hang on to it and bring it in next time.
