over the course of the next three weeks!

who's idea was it to have three children in 8 years but only have their birthdays fall 3 weeks apart?? LOL

It's my oldest sons 16th Birthday today..It's all low key. I asked him what dessert he wanted in his honor and he looked at me like I was speaking Greek..or somethin...

So anyway...I took it upon myself to decide.

One 3 layer vanilla cake. Recipe I used and hope works well in the link that follows. Only changes I made was to use 2 t of vanilla and the insides of one vanilla bean.

I will fill it with the last of the Dulce de Leche I made a few weeks back, "fluffed" with whipped cream, and then cover in cream cheese frosting. ~the nerve of him not liking chocolate frosting! lol

Now, I know the younger two will have much more specific requests.

Thank you, ssommerville, NancyLouise and cynic! NancyLouise, the movie was very fun and I can't for it to be released on DVD. The trailer for the movie I posted, isn't the best acted or highly recommended film of all time, but I love the music and it never fails to entertain me :-). My favorite characters from the new Oz movie were The Wicked Witches, especially Theodora (Wicked Witch Of The West). Cynic, I bought the Director's Cut of Little Shop Of Horrors a month or so ago and I love how true to the musical it is. Our day yesterday was a lot of fun and the food at Red Lobster was fantastic as always :-). Dad and I didn't have room for dessert, but we enjoyed it very much. I haven't been cooking anything special lately or used my new skillets yet, but, I was texting my one best friend and former high school classmate yesterday and she and I made plans for a picnic sometime soon. We have to work out the details (like what food we want to make, if we just want it for us or to bring a few friends along), but we know we want to make some sangria at least lol. Happy Birthday Ashley! AB, you have a lovely family, and Ashley looks gorgeous with her new hairstyle which goes so well with her oval face. Looks like a razor cut, is it? Wintercat, there was a little bit of protein in addition to the goldfish, at least they made the sandwiches from my own grassfed beef. (grin) Oh boy, time does fly, doesn't it? It doesn't even seem possible to me that she's in kindergarten. And taking over, of course. I don't remember having birthday parties when I was a child, or graduation open houses or a lot of other parties that are customary now. Birthdays usually included a cake after supper with the family and a couple of gifts. "Important" birthdays, like turning 13 and being a teenager or starting school might include a sleepover with a couple of friends, but that was the complete celebration. This is more fun, LOL. sleevendog, my Grandmother used to make rabbits out of pear halves, I still remember those! Lars, Ashley's favorite color combination is turquoise with chocolate brown, she decorated her bedroom with those colors. Plllog, there are no holes in the bottoms of those carriers, the cupcakes sit high enough that you can just grab the top of the cupcake itself and lift it out. The rest of the carrier is a deep plastic bowl with a post in the middle and those carriers fit down over the dowel, three layers deep. The top snaps on and there is a handle, so you can carry 2 dozen cupcakes, stacked 3 deep, without crushing any. It's very handy, and I bought it on clearance last year after Christmas. arkansas girl, my daughter tells me that Madison had some friends over the next day to play and although the cake was all gone, they ate cupcakes, so they did get eaten, they were just second choice for the kids. Too much candy for me, I didn't eat either one, but I just thought it was odd that I was specifically told that people did not eat chocolate and then that's what they ate! Annie

That cake sounds delicious! Terri, I'm in a similar boat. DD#1 has a Bday May 22, and then the B/G twins on Jun 11. Plus, I am generally designated to make cakes for my Mom (Apr 5), FIL (May 3) and Sister (Jun 9). It gets insane! Small break, then Aug 14 for DS#1 and Aug 24 for me (yes, I make my own cake--for the kids).

Hope your son has a GREAT birthday, and that he loves his cake.

Well it's got the dulce 'infused' cream, then a drizzle of the dulce over the cream, then the next layer..it wanted to slide off, so it's got some tooth picks in it...LOL and is in the fridge chilling a bit. I also used the last of the dulce flavored cream to make the cream cheese frosting. It's sweet...and tasty...sure I'll take a picture when it's completed..

Actually, he said it was to sweet..even for him..he's a sugar junky! I had a few tiny bites of the cake part..It's pretty good. Oh and I ofcourse had several tastes of the cream and the frosting as I made it. LOL

There is still alot left. I think I'll slice it and freeze it so it doesn't get thrown out.
