I was in your town last weekend and thought of you. I went to an event at the historical museum. I would have been in touch but had Mom with me. She lived there after high school and we had a good time riding around looking at places where she used to live.

As you know, I used to be mildly obsessed with vintage Cuisinarts, but that has passed and left me with a mini-museum of idle retro-choppers. When I read your post and saw a chance for one of my little plastic friends to go to a good home where there is a lot of food processing to do, I was happy.

Spent all weekend outside - spring cleaning the yard, mowing, weeding, digging, watering, sweeping, planting. Finally had things tidy enough to have the first grilled dinner of the year and eat outside. I know, everyone else has been lounging in their bikinis for months, but here in the Pac NW, the absurdly warm winter/spring of 2012 is just something we've read about in the papers. It has been rainy, and in fact next week will be rainy again.

In our one weekend of warmth and sun, we had grilled steaks . . . with your BBQ sauce! Delicious. Thanks!

(My obsession has now latched on to vintage bicycles. Fun stuff. I'll post about it in Conversations sometime.)

My Cuisinart was from my mom, I know she got it for Christmas when they first came out, probably mid to late seventies. She used it maybe once, I was the one who always used it so when they moved and pared down I got it for my new house. The shaft is cracked but Johnliu showed me a Web site where I could order a new one, but with grad. school and all my odd jobs going, who knows when I will find the time. BF and I got so inspired by the backsplash experience that we are redoing my tub/shower surround. It's not an easy job since it is a "vintage" tub and we don't want to go through the trouble of ripping it out and replumbing due to the bathroom's tiny size and the tub's odd yet perfect dimensions. So we're also redoing with vintage fixtures if we can figure out how to plumb it. The current bad modernization is a Rube Goldberg masterpiece!

John, sounds like we were doing the same thing as you guys this weekend! Sunday was gorgeous and we spent the whole day outside trying to get a handle on my yard, and then we had our first of the year outside meal, and then christened our new fire pit!

Oh, John, DH has been finding and fixing up vintage bicycles for some time now. It can definitely be an addictive hobby. My condolences to your wife. lol

Aa week or so ago I was talking with my son, who also lives in Portland. He was excited because the sun was shining. At first, I said, okaay, that's nice, then I realized just what a special event that is in Portland, and said oh, how exciting!
