Install cabinets over hardwood floors?

I am just starting a kitchen remodel. We removed almost all the cabinets and installed new hardwood flooring since we are redoing the kitchen design (getting rid of a penisula). So now I pretty much have a blank slate except for one wall of cabinets.

Can I save a bunch of work and install the cabinets directly over the hardwood floors along the walls? I am

concerned about expansion and contraction of the hardwood

and buckling if its locked in place.

Or do I need to cut up the hardwood under the cabinets down to the subfloor?

Your guidance is appriciated.

Thanks,

Mike
