when using a laminate flooring......

Did those of you with laminate run the floor under the DW and range (if you have a slide in or free standing)? I was thinking about just using wood runners under the DW, so that it is at the height of the floor, but otherwise not bothering to bring the laminate in that little spot. Same with the range. Pros/Cons?

Sometimes you can see farther in under a range, past the raised screw "feet". It kind of depends on how high you need to raise your range relative to your countertop height. If the range is raised quite a bit and/or that the range doesn't stick out from the cabinet fronts far enough, a lack of laminate under the range will/may show. (To save on material, a nice seam there wouldn't be very noticeable.)

Don't think I would put wood runners under the dishwasher because of possible leaks. We used some loose laid leftover porcelain floor tiles to achieve the proper height on ours.

thanks, teedup. I dont think it being seen under the range will be a problem unless one were to literally get down with your ear to the ground and really look for it, but I'm still a little concerned about whether to use wood, or something else. It's be nice to have something pretty smooth under there, for future sliding the range out for cleaning. Doubt I'd do that more than once a year, but I should at least prepare to do so. As for the dishwasher, tiles sound like a great idea.

what type of rug should i use on laminate flooring?

No need to worry. Laminate floors do NOT have the same issues as everything else. In fact, they are the EASIEST and CHEAPEST options when it comes to area rugs. In fact, you can use ANYTHING your heart desires. Rubber backed. Vinyl backed. Nylon. Wool. Anything and everything is allowed on laminate. The LINOLEUM was the limiting factor...not the rugs. The LINOLEUM was the problem (and the sales person failed to inform you of the limitation). Have fun and enjoy the FREEDOM the laminate gives you. If you like it, BUY IT! PS: Laminate, unless it is a water resistant laminate, does not like to live in kitchens. Just a little FYI.

I would really appreciate if some of you can help with my dilemma. We are looking into flooring options for our new home. We live in Arizona. I was looking in to wood look porcelain tile because I really like the look of wood, but I want something where I can have the same kind of flooring in the entire main floor, so hard wood tile combo is out. We have hardwood in our current house in both our floors except kitchen and stairs as much as I love the look of it, I don’t like the upkeep that comes with it. A couple of our friends got LVP done in their homes and they really like it. I love how it looks but just can’t get over the vinyl part and how will it effect the value of the house? I spoke to a couple of local suppliers and contractors and they said I can’t go wrong with either it just comes down to personal choice. And with regard to the value they said only hard wood increases the value and carpet may decrease the value because buyers would like to change the carpet but vinyl or tile don’t add or delete anything in our are. it most likely will be our forever home till we downsize but just in case. Our home will be around 700k. I understand that vinyl costs less in labor charges but a 20mil wear layer vinyl is not cheap in material and I don’t mind to spend more on the labor of tile and prefer to compromise somewhere else which I can change easily later . I know some of the same things were discussed in this thread but most of them are over a year old was wondering if everyone is still on the same page. For everyone who has wood look porcelain tile or LVP do you still like it after a couple of years? What are the pros and cons. For me one big con with the tile is grout. And LVP’s pro is it’s looks. Do you have problems with footprints being seen on LVP like how a few mentioned in an other thread? any pro’s please give your input on what you think? Thanks a lot if you read till now. I will greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

We used Mannington Arcadia Firewood laminate in 2013 throughout the whole house, two bathrooms, kitchen, the works. Before we bought it we stuck a plank in a 5 gallon bucket of water for a month. Nothing happened to it and nothing has happened to the floors. Wearing like iron. I do have a bath mat to step out of the shower and I use a mat at the kitchen sink to ease long standing but I'm completely sold on Mannington. I use a microfiber dust mop every other day since I live where the dust blows a lot, wipe up any spill in the kitchen with the Mannington floor care spray and I have mats at the entry doors. We do not take off our shoes but dirt and mud stays out. My installer was a genius in placement--I only have transitions at the bathroom doorways, barely noticeable since they are lines up with the door itself. If I ever have a kitchen issue he installed it so the planks can come out beginning at the back wall and be replaced without tearing up anything in the dining/family room. The flooring runs parallel to the entry, the "long way" so it extends the view of the floor plan.

We regretted not putting ours under the DW and eventually did. If you need to pull out the dw for anything, it's hard to lift it over the lip of the floor. I would also run it under the range. Our laminate was Wilsonart Estate Plus and very water resistant, so we didn't worry about possible water leaking on it.

We have our laminate under the dw and stove and it's great. The laminate is very water-resistant, so when the dw leaked, it wasn't a problem. And under the stove, the floor makes it easy to pull out and wipe clean. Laminate is a breeze to clean, and under the stove is such a yucky place. You definitely want to run it.
