House gift for Vietnamese family?

I need some help here. I took my manicurist my copy of the recent Smithsonian Magazine with Mimi Sheraton's article about her search for Pho Bo in Hanoi.

Now, I've been a client of this guy for about 5 years now, but I can't say we are friends, know what I mean?

SO he gets very excited about the article, and we talked a lot about Vietnam, including the war (he's from Da Nang, in the south, and came to the US in 1979), and especially food.

So now he's invited me to his home for a family lunch of his homemade Pho. Date is uncertain right now, but it's a tradition with his family for Sundays, maybe once a month.

Now, I am overwhelmed with this invitation, and deeply touched, and looking forward to it. But what do I bring for a small housegift? And ideas? Is that a proper custom in Vietnam, as bringing a bottle of wine is here? Flowers? They have some lovely orchids in the salon.

Any cultural food-related ideas?

Thanks!
