Bridgewood Gardens Open House= some gorgeous new hosts!
Comments (18)'am surprised you didnt leave at dawn ... like the blues brothers .. whats this 11am all about.. lol.. its like you waited until the hottest time of day ... to go walk in greenhouses ...' Ken I was up at dawn, but I was plotting you see. Plus I've worked in greenhouses for several years, the heat doesn't really phase me anymore especially when there are plants in them that I want. I am an auditor for an insurance company. What this means is my office is my car. So I was up at dawn removing my mobile office from the car under the cover of darkness. See my husband knows that the trunk of my car is only empty for dirt or new hostas. Seeing as I just bought a ton of dirt, I knew he'd be skeptical. The next step was waiting for him to leave the house lol. He left around 10:58 to run errands and I skulked out at 11 with an empty trunk and a slightly maddened gleam in my eye as the prospects of what I might be able to find at Bridgewood. I keep a hosta mad money plant stash, each week I squirrel away money to have a few spring fever plant purchases. When it stops raining (if it ever does) I'll post a separate link with my Hallson's order. My poor husband only knows about Hallson's, he has yet to discover my Bridgewood haul. Maybe it shouldn't stop raining after all! LOL...See MoreWarming oak floors without red, yellow tones?
Comments (12)Sas, Kellie, and Jill--Thanks for the compliments. I think it is a shock to see it all done, especially after looking at mostly car decking for months and months on end. Floor install and staining happened very fast. I guess I was wrong about the finishing process. The pics I posted above were taken this morning with the first, and as it turns out only, coat of stain. I somehow thought from my paperwork and conversations with flooring co rep that there were 3 coats of stain. Nope, just one. There are 3 coats of poly. The first coat went on this morning directly after those pics. The second coat went on this afternoon. The third and final coat is applied after everything else in the reno is done--cabs, appliances, trim, painting, carpet in adjoining hallway. Marcolo--The poly is water-based satin. I took this pic of the second coat of poly going down. And here's the mudroom looking more yellow than it is: Bottom line is that the floor looks better with the poly and now that I've seen it a few times. I'm sure it'll be nice once the kitchen and furnishings are in. I'm leaving my slight concern behind and moving forward. Thanks again....See MoreSuggestions for 'kitchen warming' gift?
Comments (14)My salt container is a lidded pumpkin in whites with greens and brown, a glazed piece of pottery with lid. It wasn't made to hold salt. It's the kind of thing that could be used to hold individual servings of soup on a prettily decorated table, or just to decorate a shelf. Mine holds about 2/3 of a box of kosher salt and is extremely functional. Salt never clumps up, even here in steamy Georgia. So, if there's a nice item you admire in a local shop and it has a lid, it just might be a salt cellar in waiting. The nice thing is that this really opens up the options available. Let's face it, there aren't all that many containers being marketed as specifically for salt. The opening should be wide enough to allow a full 5-finger "pinch."...See MoreHow long do you go without opening a single window in your house?
Comments (18)Fresh outside air is critical to good health. Unfortunately we don't know what levels of what contaminants are unhealthy. Is 1000ppm CO2 OK? Too high? And on and on. On the upper end we only close windows if the outside humidity is above about 65-70% or temp above about 80-85°f. Or to keep rain or very strong winds from blowing in. On the low end we won't necessarily keep a lot of windows open when it's below about 45°f but will often have one or two open a few inches either through the night or for a few hours. I doubt we ever go more than maybe a week without opening some windows unless high temps are below 0°f. It's not unusual when we've had a cold spell (highs of -15°f are no unheard of) for a bit to see lots of people in our neighborhood open windows as soon as it's above 0°f one day....See Moregellchom
