I love a ham sandwich with swiss cheese, tomato, a bit of mayo on dark pumpernickel bread.

Mustard, swiss cheese. Never mayo. Don't like mayo on ham or cheese.

Need canned ham recipe for sandwiches

A canned ham is precooked.......in truth you don't need to cook it at all. Years ago there was a supplier who always gave my DH a canned ham for Christmas. The ham is surrounded with a gelatin-ized juice, which makes it very un appetizing, so the first one I glazed with brown sugar and mustard and baked it until it was nicely browned.....and the ham was dry and over cooked....good for not much more than grinding up and making ham salad of. Then I learned to just warm it enough so the gelatin melts off, and any seasoning would come on the sandwich. So your answer is....don't "cook" it....just put into a 350 oven for about 30 minutes. If you insist on a glaze....mix brown sugar and dijon mustard half and half and spread over the top....after the gelatin has melted off....and cook for another 20 to 30 minutes.

Can I use a smoked ham in place of canned ham?

Hello, just wanted to tell you that I made this recipe (with your help - thank you!!) I cut down the celery to 4 stalks, used an 8 oz jar of relish, left out the hot sauce, used smoked ham cut up fine, added a bit of mayo ....AND IT WAS GREAT! Thank you for all your help! As I noted, I don't cook much and I made these for a party for 40 people. The wraps are all gone, they went quickly, were easy to make and looked nice on the plate. They one thing I was add to the recipe was to make sure you roll the wraps tightly, and "seal" the end with a bit of cream cheese to make sure the wrap stays closed. I cut the wraps about an hour before the party, put them on a platter with sprigs of parsley as garnish, then back in the fridge. T'was easy, good & nice addition to lots of cheese & veggie platters. Thank you again for your advice, it is very much appreciated!

Quiche-have you ever used sliced rather than cubed ham?

Evaporated milk, even low fat, makes decent quiche. Fluffier because of less fat. Basically what scalding does, but you have to have a can or three of milk for that, and evaporated milk doesn't really keep well considering it's canned. Floral, cream is mostly fat. Fat freezes really well. I have put it in a container designed for freezing and tossed it in the freezer. It does need stirring when thawed, but it works fine. Perhaps if you leave it too long, it could go weird. The cream I buy is organic, pasteurized heavy whipping cream in a coated paper carton. I store it near the cold air fan in the coldest part of the fridge. I don't know if it being a very fancy fridge helps. Unopened cream holds for at least a month, but eventually turns into mascarpone if abandoned there. Now and then it'll go moldy before it turns to cheese, and then sours, but most of the time it keeps in some form. I daresay if your cream isn't pasteurized it might go off sooner.

I am also fortunate to have a large and thriving multi-cultural migrant community due to our largely agricultural area. Food trucks and small local restaurant serve everything from empanadas to pupusas to elote to tacos, with a dose of cajun tossed in. I also am not a fan of Indian food, although many others love it. I don't care for curry, whether hot or sweet and have what Alton Brown calls "weenie hot mouth" so most Thai is just too spicy. Some local food trucks have learned to moderate the heat levels for people like me and some have not, and it's up to me to learn the difference, LOL. I do like tacos but am not for the texture of any flour tortilla I've ever had, including the locally made fresh ones and the ones I've made myself. I know I'm going to get the endless you just haven't had them made right, or the good ones, or whatever. I like corn tortillas better but won't turn down a good burrito and truthfully, the beans and rice is always my favorite order. I also don't care for cheese or sour cream so always get my taco "Mexican style" which here is fresh cilantro and chopped onion. I also see very little difference in a taco and a sandwich and fry bread was common in my childhood, usually eaten with some kind of venison chili. I do not like ham so no ham sandwiches for me although members of my family love glazed ham and I make it on holidays for everyone else. Annie

If I had my druthers, I'd have it on a whole wheat bun, with a fried egg, lettuce and a little mayo. Can we say artery clogger?! But I only have that about once every 3 or 4 years.

Shirley

Forgot to add that I'd want the ham browned a little in a skillet.

Ham & Swiss on dark rye, with mayo and just a touch of mustard. Lettuce and tomato, also if the tomatoes are good. Every now and then, I'll put a thinly sliced dill pickle on a ham sandwich...that's good, also!

Miracle whip and lettuce. Or sometimes just mustard.

Often it depends on the type of ham. If it's carved off a baked ham, especially if it's well done, I like it pretty much plain on a homemade bun or multigrain bun, occasionally toast and seldom anything else with it.

If it's deli ham, I like ranch dressing or salad dressing. Melted swiss or mozzarella goes great on a hot sandwich, and possibly grill the sandwich itself or serve on toast.

I like sandwiches a lot of different ways.

I see a lot of you like it the way I do. I like a nice heated ham sandwich with melty American cheese. I like a ham sandwich with Miracle Whip, lettuce and tomato, I like it with just mustard on it and I like it with creamy horseradish on it. The bread can be most any kind, but it must be soft. I do like it heated for the most part, but it being cold won't stop me from having one. Oh, darn, no ham in the house!

I love to drown it in mayo on wheat or white bread with maybe some lettuce and a piece of cheddar or american cheese!

A tiny bit of mayo, a tiny bit of Dijon mustard and a lettuce leaf, egg bread preferred.

A bit boring, I know, but my main interest is in tasting the ham.

The only way I can eat a ham sandwich is on toasted bread with freshly made HOT Coleman's mustard. Otherwise I avoid ham on sandwiches.

On white toast, buttered and then spread generously with Miracle Whip. Add plenty of ham, a slice of Swiss cheese, thinly sliced red onion, fresh from the garden sliced tomato that is sprinkled generously with pepper, some alfalfa sprouts and sliced cucumbers. Cut into triangles, open sandwich and put some regular Lays potato chips on it, schmoosh it down and eat it.

But...maybe I need some Dukes Mayo on it too! :)

Ham & cheddar or provolone, on sourdough, toasted with mayo and a good spicy mustard. Dang, now I want lunch. Too bad I used up the last of the ham to make Corn Chowder last night.
