That's so funny and reminds me of my MIL. I am going to be 73 soon and I still color my hair. If it was a nice gray, I wouldn't but it's not so I just make it the color that I want it to be..........When it grew back after the chemo, I dyed it bright red........

She must have had a great sense of humor.

My sister was a redhead, kept it dyed and then let it go natural and it was white. Her skin color was not meant to go with white hair.

Love it. Wish I had known her. My dad and his (dumb) second wife have "It was great while it lasted" on their headstone. I'd think it was funny if I hadn't disliked her so much, may they both RIP.

Life's too short to continue carrying grudges for years.

She's dead: you're the only one that's being hurt by the continued resentment and anger.

I know where you're coming from, as (following my having gone to university) Dad remarried and we three boys (19 - 14) found step-mom something short of being lovable.

We got a ready-made (and our only) sister out of that deal, slightly younger than we ... and she has never liked her Mom, who died of cancer upwards of 30 years ago, much, either.

It is easier for me to have put that issue behind me, as I never had to live with her for more than a few days at a time.

She and my wife, who rarely saw her, tangled ... and my ex- asked me why I hadn't warned her, to which I replied that I'd thought of it, but chose not to, as I didn't want to set her teeth on edge ... and if she and step-Mom could get along well - great: why get the milk half curdled before they'd even met?

We were expecting our third baby after having 2 boys. I wanted a little girl with red hair and blue eyes born in April. I got everything but the red hair, and Clairol took care of that when Colleen was 18. She will be 51 in April, 5'3" abt 100 lbs and still a gorgeous redhead. P.S. The reason I wanted her born in April was because I wanted to name her April, but her Dad wanted his Irish Colleen.

Hey Joyful There's a lot more to the story. I won't go into it. I was already 30 when they got together -- and so was she. Fun having a stepmother who is three months younger than you are (kidding).

My mom was a natural redhead -- fire engine red from birth, with the freckles to go with it. I got the freckles but not the red hair.

When Sue's Mom, not too far from retirement as a teacher/librarian, visited us in Korea, the Korean women, many of whom had a rather hard life and most looked pretty old at 40 ...

... couldn't believe that she was Sue's Mom - figured that she must be her sister!

I learn something every day. Today I googled suicide blond. My guess was that it was blond hair with red streaks since we were talking about a red head and the word suicide. Ah, no, suicide blond is just that fried white hair from a bottle, said google. Seen quite a few of those!

Still maintaining my cosmotology certificate for 31 years, I had never heard that.

Thanks Patti, I enjoyed this post since it reminds me of so many red heads, quite a few older ladies, that I have loved.

In my Christmas message I noted that some of my friends make reading the obits something of a habit - as they find a number of friends listed, from time to time.

I said that I laugh and tell them to be thankful ... for the day's coming when they won't be able to, any more ...

... when it's their turn to appear!

I know it's weird I read the obits. I read just about all the newspapers--from cover to cover, except for the sports section. :-)

Some death notices and obits make more interesting reading than the front page.
