I was told to introduce myself....

....By Renee (Bubbeskitchen). She led me to the forum last Thursday afternoon. I am one of her stops on her way up to Connecticut. This week she told me to introduce myself.

My name is Elizabeth (Beth is good). I'm 22 and I work full time and go to school full time. I enjoy cooking and baking when I have the time and my time seems to be scarce these days. But I always love finding new recipes and ideas for cooking. I will be getting married in May of 09 and I want to make sure that I can satisfy his stomach. I'd love to be more diversified in my cooking so I am always open to new creations. Looking forward to hopefully finding some new favorite recipes and sharing any good ones that I come across.

Bamboorabbit- Up here in Michigan we can only dream of such fruit. I used to live in Venezuela and can't express how much we miss being able to pick a lemon when we need it, and enjoy the plethora of awesome fruit. I used to eat so much on my dads farm that I would walk around with mango drips smeared on my sleeves, etc. My dad and I would pick a pile of oranges, head to the river, soak our feet, and peel and eat one after another.Valencias, navels, you name it. Malay apples are awesome too. My dad was instrumental in bringing new varieties of citrus to Venezuela from california for different nurseries. However the rootstock on all of the grafts succumbed to a virus called "tristeza"(literally,"sadness") and they all died. The only trees left on the plantation that are visible to this day is the row of "Haden" Mangoes. You can see them from space on google maps' zoom feature. Have fun Noogy

Welcome aboard Jeana. I was certain I had posted to this thread but didn't see it yesterday or this morning. So not sure if the GW gnomes ate it, I forgot to submit it or Dawn removed it as I'm sure I had some warning in it about her being an enabler and being our "Elite Gardener. Or maybe as I''m waiting on new glasses that are late arriving I may of overlooked it. I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. You will be blessed with his memories everytime you read his notes and go out to garden. I got my love of gardening from my Mother. She is failing now and can't do much but still has beautiful flowers every year. I'm one of the lap landers mentioned earlier in the thread. Sleep next to the state line and like a tumble week blow back and forth. I agree Ilene Dawn should write a book and you need a chapter on gardening fashions in it. All terrain crocs, bee costumes and whatever the new the fad might be. Diane mentioned the enormous brains and stores of knowledge. I just have an enormous inventory of seeds and have no clue why. hello Max, welcome. You live in Ventura now and are moving to Costa Rica by next year.....dang you. When you get to CR you will be able to grow most anything tropical you want. In addition the markets will have more variety of fruit. I imagine you could still order from nurseries in Puerto Rico like Montoso or Govardan or possibly find local nurseries. Soon we'll all be jealous of you (at least I will). So far you are already doing a great job. good luck, -Ethan

Hello,Sue. Welcome Home! You will love it here and won't want to leave. I can't knit and tried to crochet once. I am too tense. I started out nicely and ended up with that yarn so tight I couldn't get the hook through it!! Anyhoo, glad you joined us. We love lots of pics and to hear all about any good deals that you find. Hey, Beth! It's very nice to meet you, and Bubbe definitely gave you the straight scoop! It just blows my mind that there is so much experience, expertise and encouragement all to be found in one spot. I've been cookin' far longer than you've been kickin', but hardly a day passes that I don't learn something truly helpful by reading the posts. Oh, the grief these guys can save a young cook!! Listen to the advice, try the recipes, and your fiance is going to be one happy guy. :)

I haven't said much here either yet. But, I have started trying some of the recipes. WOW! You must try Kathleen's Irish Soda Bread. It was gone in a flash. I made it one afternoon(makes 2 loaves) and went back to get a piece the next day and all I found was an empty container and 2 voices swearing they didn't eat it all!!
Made Weed's Maple Syrup Pork Loin last night after I read Stacy's post about how great it was. It is great. My hubby wants to try the sauce on steak as a marinade before grilling. I stuck right to the recipe except, I left the scallions out. (Allergic) I was so intent on cooking it just right that I forgot to turn the exaust fan on over the stove and smoked up the whole house!!!
I think I will stop for now and go have some leftovers while there are still some left (I hope!)

Welcome, Beth, all the way from California. This forum is the most helpful on the internet, such good advice, recipes, great people too. They never leave you hanging. You may never need a cookbook, LOL. Great reviews here also.

Hi, Beth, glad to meet you. I'm Jannie (because my real name, Janice, was taken, as well as my usual nickname Jan). I am so glad to see someone young on this cooking forum. I figured everyone here was older, hence more experienced. We can all learn from each other. Just finished dinner, shrimp cocktail, hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and corn.

Work on his grandmothers for ideas on his favorite treats! Grandmas always have a line on the best guy foods like fried chicken, pies, and soup. Then come here and share your finds!

His grandparents are from Germany, They are a very German family whenever there are family get togethers, its German food. Which I don't mind. Its all good. They use a lot of venison meat too which I like becuase its very lean and when cooked right not gamey. So I can get German recipes. I'm also working on perfecting Black Forest Cake. I've made it twice now. Second was better, so hopefully by the 3rd(even though I swear to never make it again after each time :-D) It will be even better.
