As far as driving everybody crazy, that ship has already sailed where I'm concerned. LOL

I have been doing some research online to find out more about the seeds my gramps gave me there is a never ending supply of information about seeds on here and my eyes are starting to cross. So sorry to hear of the passing of your grandfather. I feel that the best way to honor and to preserve memories is through gardening, and your grandfather will be with you thru his legacy of notes and sketches as you embark on your gardening journey.

I don't grow as many veggies as Dawn and the others do for lack of gardening space for them, but I try tomatoes every now and then, and now am the proud owner of some blueberry bushes. You'll probably come to know me as the butterfly and moth nut on the forum heehee cuz most of my garden is devote to host and nectar plants that I grow for them to lay their eggs on and then I raise a good many of them by hand and release them in the garden.

We can offer our expertise and you will soon learn that we have a lot of questions of our own sometimes. The thing about gardening is there is always something to learn.

Welcome Jeana! You've been one of those lucky few who stumble upon this forum! I did myself about a year ago in hopes of learning a few things and WOW! I've learned more than I thought possible!!! But a fair warning....with the support, experience and friends you'll make here...you will never want to leave!
Sorry about your Grandpa's passing. I know this time of year especially it's difficult. My grandparents raised me and that's where my love of gardening started too (with tomatoe plants, onions & radishes)! You are so blessed to have his notes and sketches!!! You have your own personal "garden angel"!

Don't worry about driving ANY of us crazy!! In fact, this bunch will enable you to want to grow more and try more...and ...get the picture? LOL! We have young and even younger members. They're scattered all over the state and even lap over into other surrounding states, but we're all still "gardening family".

Again, welcome! What kind of dirt do you have? What are your basics that you're considering this year? Do tell more!

I'm sorry about the loss of your grandfather, I'm sure you will enjoy reading the information he left for you and your memories will bring you comfort.
I agree with the others about "you can't drive us crazy - we are already there". Gardeners are a special breed - we can be tough and loving too - plus we all had to learn somewhere from someone. I was fortunate to have grandparents on both sides that loved gardens and flowers and they spent a lot of time and patience teaching me what I know - I still can hear their advice when I'm working in the gardens. Ask away, chances are there are more of us wondering the same things you are - and if not, we all can use a refresher course on things.

Thanks everyone for the great welcome. I have been reading a lot of the older post and taking notes (I am stickie note queen) I have made a list of what I want to grow and have got some good ideas for my peppers and tomatoes I would like to get some recommendations about squash summer and winter.

Paula, My dirt seems pretty rocky but we just tilled it up this fall when I started thinking about gardening. I have had a compost pile for a number of years for my flower/herb beds but I am going to have to go a bit bigger since I want to add to my veggie garden also....trying to think of a way to make going and asking our neighbors for their leaves sound fun to my boys....lol. I need to get my soil tested because I would like to know what it needs and doesn't need.

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. It's wonderful that you have his notes and some seeds,, though! I was just skipping down memory lane in another thread about wishing I had my granddad's garden journals. I think about him often when I'm gardening -- it's a nice connection even after their gone.

Welcome again and ask away with any questions. There are a lot of people here with enormous brains and even more enormous stores of knowledge stashed in those bulging brains! I learn so much from them.

Welcome to the friendliest forum that I visit. You will like it here, the people are the most patient I have ever encountered online. I suppose Oklahoma gardening does that to a soul. Heh.

So sorry for your loss. Our grandparents are a wonderful resource. You are fortunate to have his notes. My grandparents didn't make notes and I didn't think to ask nearly enough questions while they were alive.

Dawn can help with succession planting and George (Macmex) knows a lot about squash and seed saving.

And I've been growing peas and broccoli, two crops that Ok gardeners often have trouble with, successfully for years.

So welcome and ask away. Somebody knows the answer to almost every question...or can tell you where to find it.

Hello Jeana and welcome to the OGW. I'm sorry to hear about your loss this winter.

I'm fairly new to the forum too but this group is great and everybody here knows a ton! I'm convinced you can learn a lot more on the forum than you can from gardening books :) Don't worry about asking too many questions...we all do it LOL.

Welcome aboard Jeana. I was certain I had posted to this thread but didn't see it yesterday or this morning. So not sure if the GW gnomes ate it, I forgot to submit it or Dawn removed it as I'm sure I had some warning in it about her being an enabler and being our "Elite Gardener. Or maybe as I''m waiting on new glasses that are late arriving I may of overlooked it.
I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. You will be blessed with his memories everytime you read his notes and go out to garden. I got my love of gardening from my Mother. She is failing now and can't do much but still has beautiful flowers every year. I'm one of the lap landers mentioned earlier in the thread. Sleep next to the state line and like a tumble week blow back and forth.
I agree Ilene Dawn should write a book and you need a chapter on gardening fashions in it. All terrain crocs, bee costumes and whatever the new the fad might be.

Diane mentioned the enormous brains and stores of knowledge. I just have an enormous inventory of seeds and have no clue why. LOL.

Jay, I know I saw your earlier comments too and I bet it was during the same time frame that everything was disappearing. Whatever has been causing iVillage so much trouble with the GW system seems to be fixed (crossing my fingers as I say that), so maybe the posts will stop being eaten by those mischevious garden gnomes.
