Need help with Cream/beige Cabinets!!!

Dear all,

I have gotten myself involved in a kitchen makeover with nothing more than a "want" to surprise my other half! I have cream/beige cabinets, so i have picked out Verde Peacock as a possible granite choice for countertops. The Stainless Steel appliance is in...but my questions are the following:

1. Is Verde Peacock a right choice against beige/cream cabinets?

2. What would an ideal back splash be?

3. What color will i need to paint the walls to tie it all together? I am leaning towards leaving the ceiling white!

We are in the middle of having Shrock toasted almond installed which is creamy. Our paint is BM Litchfield gray. When we were at the granite showroom trying to match paint samples to our doors and granite, the design guy that helps with this sort of thing came out with a big wheel of paint sample chips but took one look at the Litchfield gray sample and said it was perfect. The granite is something new that they had just received and they called it English Teak. The very first time we looked at it I could swear it was more brown. What appealed to us was what looked like a small birdseye pattern similar to what you might see in birdseye maple. when we went back to pick the paint it looked more grayish. Still beautiful but different. Only goes to show, you have to see things under varying lighting conditions.

If I were building a custom home, the first thing I'd do would be to hire a good color consultant. You're dealing with two tricky colors there, both the combo and the colors, themselves. So much depends on the light orientation. In some people's homes, Kilim is the perfect neutral, but in other's it can lean pink or green. Now, I happen to have Ivoire in a good portion of my own home. Love it, but in lower light settings it can read pretty yellow (very subtle yellow, but yellow all the same). If you just paint a bit on the wall it will seem beige, but IRL, when on all four walls, the yellow magnifies. The other part of your question, about mixing beige and creamy yellow, just screams for a pro's advice. That is one of the toughest combos to do correctly. For the record, I have seen Ivoire used in the kitchen setting you describe. It looked lovely.

Have you considered antiqued Nordic Black granite? If you really like the look of soapstone, I think NB is the best substitute looks-wise. Below, I've linked a thread to jen4268's gorgeous kitchen, which displays antiqued Nordic Black with cream shaker cabinets and oak floors. Although Virginia Mist is very pretty in its own right, I can't understand why it has earned the reputation that it "looks just like soapstone" (which I've heard from several granite people). The two installations I've seen in person look nothing like any soapstone I've ever seen. Again, beautiful on its own, but soapstone-like at all. I guess you need to define "grey". I wouldn't go for a blue grey which will read "cool" against the warm colours you have. But if you went towards a more beige/brown grey - think "greige" - leaning more towards the warm tones it could work well. Here are some visuals to help....I'm suggesting to work with the colours suggested on the right side of the picture below. Colours in those tones should work with the colours you have although right now I can't tell exactly what colours you have in your counters. I see some taupey coloured tiles in your backsplash area - lean in those directions for your grey choices. Here are some warm grey colours you could consider. You'll need to test them in your space. I've tried Balboa mist but it had a decidedly purple cast in my space and just didn't work although I liked it on the paint chip. Revere Pewter is a popular choice - again you need to check it in your space. Sometimes it reads quite taupey and others it is more grey. Depends on the light in the room and the surroundings as well. I also like BM Pale Oak (OC-20). There are some folks here on Houzz who are really good at photoshop. If one of them happens along they can mock up your space with the paint colour so you can get an idea of the look and if you'll like it. Get lots of samples (you can get Samplize samples or buy tester pots at your paint store. Try them out and look at them in daylight and with lights on in the evening and see if you're happy with them.

It also depends on the lighting in space. Get your light bulbs the hue (warm or cool or daylight) the way you like it 1st, then choose samples. It's amazing how much a hue of a bulb will change the colors in a room. here's some links to help choose the hue you prefer. See them in sunlight, shadows, & at night. If can't get door samples, paint big sheets of paper & hang them in the areas mentioned above. Hope that helps.

This is the EXACT question I have about my kitchen. We are just starting out our remodel as well and love the Verde Peacock. Our walls are already SW Hazel, which is a cooll greenish blue. But depending on the lighting, it can look warm, so we thought the Peacock would work well since it has both warm and cool tones in it (at least, I think it does!).

We are waffling between SW Creamy and SW Alabaster for our cabinets. DH is going to paint them himself. We are leaving our ceiling white.

As for a backsplash, we are just going to paint the sheetrock the same color as our walls (Hazel) for now. Eventually we will probably just do a neutral subway tile, but we aren't 100% sure so we're just going to live with the walls painted for now and figure it out later. Our granite fabricator said that it's better to do the backsplash after the granite is installed anyway, so we'll just wait. One designer told us to do a high quality wallpaper backsplash! I've never seen that before but it might be a fun way to tight in color/texture. Haven't looked into it at all, but it's a thought and probably pretty affordable if you don't need a lot of it.

I would really love to hear what others have to say about this--if it's all a good choice or not! I am so new to this--did anyone ever respond to you?
