need help deciding on dark or light countertop for vantiy?
Comments (1)I love what you've done so far. The marble makes it very timeless, but stacking the tiles as you did introduces a contemporary feeling that appeals to me. It seems you have a warm, dark floor tile, and everything else is really primarily white. Since you have texture on the floor (the "wood" grain) and on the walls (the "marble" veining), I would think you don't want to go too busy with your countertop material. I've had trouble finding granite that is internally consistent, except for some of the very dark granites, like absolute black or black galaxy, etc. And I don't think I would like that with your other choices. Other stones with more movement will clash with your marble. I know it's more costly, but I would go with a white or gray quartz (like Caesarstone Blizzard or Pebble), the white should go with the other whites you've already chosen and the gray should match the veining in your wall tile. If you vanity is small enough, you might be able to find a remnant of the quartz, which would make it less expensive. I look forward to seeing pics of your completed bathroom. Good luck!...See MoreHelp me decide on a counter top material
Comments (5)What about a piece of granite that has a lot of movement, and some burgundy tones in it? Honed finish, not polished. I know nothing about granites, but I looked under "burgundy granite" and found several that seemed interesting. Lambada was one, Maracana was another. Another alternative would be some kind of mosaic in a matte finish. Or, you could do a wood countertop. I am a big fan of zebrawood, so I could see something like that as a great accent on your pantry cabinet. Matte finish, very hard wood. Plus that is considered sustainable wood for harvesting, so eco-friendly. zebrawood counter...See Moreneed help deciding on dark or light countertop for vanity?
Comments (6)I left off the picture of the field tile being installed. The backsplash for the long vanity will basically be the field tile as shown in this picture. Seems like everything is pale in the room right now. Would having a dark pop of color (maybe dark or darker gray) be too much of a contrast if that was the only dark color in the room? (the floor isn't too light but it looks like wood and has a rustic style so one could say it looks a bit "washed out".)...See MoreNeed cabinet color/counter top help
Comments (19)terrilynn, I am confused about what to do for the island and also the desk/coffee bar/bar area. I'm going back and forth on wood or soapstone for the island. I'm pretty sure I want wood on the desk and soapstone on the bar/coffee area. (just for maintenance purposes). I'm not sure if I do the base colors on the other areas the same as the island or different. We aren't doing any stainless except for the range, but that desk is pretty cool! Lavender, thanks, and I love the idea of red accents. I hadn't really thought that far, but that will be perfect and will blend with the rest of our house. I guess I need to figure out if I can really do the painted island and how much maintenance that will be. Here are my options, in case anyone else is as confused as I am: 1. Wood colored island with soapstone top 2. Sage/light green island with soapstone top 3. Sage/light green island with wood top Desk: something with a wood top....I'm thinking base should match the island, unless of course the island base is wood tone, and then it would either match the yellow cabinets or the coffee bar area. Coffee bar/bar: definitely soapstone top- either yellow cabinets like the rest of the kitchen, green, or wood colored. I'm even confusing myself, so if anyone is following this, I'm impressed, and thank you for any thoughts!...See Morebuildinginva
