LOST- I'm looking forward to the final season on 2/2

The final season of LOST starts Tuesday 2/2. I'm really looking forward to watching how the writers manage to wrap things up. They've admitted that there will still be some themes that won't be explained. I just hope we don't discover that this was all just something that Bob Newhart was dreaming about or that it was the invention of an autistic child (St. Elsewhere).

Anyone else addicted to this series? I just don't want to feel like I've wasted my time.

I lost interest in the show after about the 4th or 5th hiatus..lol. My daughter is very eager to see the last season - I hope it doesn't end up being a wasted investment of time. If they resolve some of the issues, I guess that's the best we can hope for.

My daughter is obsessed with it!! She already told me she wants a Dharma (sp?) uniform for Halloween. Got to start thinking about how to accomplish that LOL. Anyone know if Walmart sells khaki long sleeve junpsuits??

I have a 4 foot tall healthy, thriving Saguaro, and I live in chicagoland.. It stays in the house in a southern exposure from October until June. It gets watered MAYBE 4 times during those EIGHT months! Once it goes outside, I water it about every 2-3 weeks in the summer, using a moisture meter as my guide. Plus, you must ALWAYS have the same side facing south, or they will burn and die..I mark my pot with a painted red dot, so I know to ALWAYS keep that side facing south..VERY IMPORTANT to NOT turn these guys.. You MUST keep these guys super dry in the fall/winter, and even in the summer, they can go awhile without water, even if its 90-100 degrees. They are like sponges; you can see them swell up when you water them, and you watch them start to shrivel up a bit the dryer they get. Remember, they are native to the Arizona desert, where they might get 4 inches of rain ALL YEAR..Overwatering will kill these guys, and that is what you did to your little guy..My 4 foot tall guy is in a 14 inch diameter pot, which is only a little bigger than they one you had your little fingerling in.

Thinking I might have found the bright side of the garlic grass that's invaded most of my gardens, I went googling for "plants that repel voles" and found a promising article on Elsevier (they publish research journal articles). The goal of the study was to find plants that kept voles out of orchards. The method was to see what deterred them from eating their favorite food, applesauce, when it was mixed with different concentrations of the various plants under consideration. I'm not positive that these results actually imply a repellent, but for what it's worth, here are the results: Pachysandra (Pachysandra terminalis Sieb. and Zucc.), boxwood (Buxus sempervirens L.), daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus L.), and crownvetch (Coronilla varia L.) were the most effective. I can probably get a PDF of the full text from the WHOI library system if anyone wants to see it, but I'm hoping to find something more apropos (I really don't *want* pachysandra everywhere - or anywhere.) Oh boy, I really didn't want to think about this. But I am glad it's been brought up anyway; I have needed to think about it more. We were only lucky that Rita did not do much to us last year. We could just as easily have been goners. I hope all y'all with spouses can at least AGREE on a plan. DW and I have a BIG difference over when to leave versus when to stay put. She is willing to ride out even a Category 3. Me, I want to go to the Hill Country or Lost Pines area, or at least a Brenham-like distance inland, at the earliest hint we're "probable" for a hit by ANY hurricane. On foot with backpacks, or jumping trains, if necessary. (Horse-rustling, even for good riders who are good thieves, is not a good bet.) I figure I can make about 20 miles a day, still. It might kill me; but then, so probably would staying put. You can guess who "wins" on this conflict. Although I try and try to help her to see what she is likely setting us up for. I mean, assuming you can survive the thing or not be seriously injured during it, who wants to get themselves stuck in a flood- and wind-ravaged wasteland, with no essential (or even non-essential) services, that a day before was teeming with people in a fairly comfortable, even luxurious, early 2000s American urban life?! Think: law of the jungle. Wilder than the old Wild West. Diseases galore. No lights at night, except by what you can set on fire, for weeks. And CRIME?! Forget the likely pandemic of mere strong-arm robbery or murder - you would be lucky if you didn't see cannibalism in some places, at some point. I've never been that hungry, but I've been close; I can't make promises about anything if I ever was... I thought the images of Katrina would be enough to sway her to my conservative preference for a plan. She seems to have a death wish: "my home, or my grave, or both." I'm old and not much good anymore, but I'm not ready to go yet, and especially not in a situation like that, if I can help it. God bless everyone else with safety this season!

BWAA! I didn't post the last little adventure in glitchen dancing. After the fridge episode, which was fixed quite successfully, we install the oven. Big panic day - it was a Friday, and we were moving in on Sat, so lots of activity at the house as everyone tried hard to get things finished for us. Stove gets installed. I look over and say "don't tell me". Cabinet guy looks at me with a scared look on his face and says cautiously... "what?". So I walk over to the drawers that are 90 degrees to the oven (we decided to write off the corner in favour of big drawers), and... they won't open!! Yes, we left a filler, but it wasn't enough... So they had to take out that bank of drawers and rebuild them - with the countertop installed, of course. I seriously think my KD totally ignored my appliance specs. So we move in with the drawers that are to take the kitchen utensils, pots and pans, and baking sheets, not there. So we ate out for a couple of weeks then went on vacation :) Things are pretty much done now (although when we came back from vacation on Sunday the final set of drawer fronts were on, however they've taken two cabinet doors off that have been on for weeks and I have NO clue why) and I was able to unpack the final two kitchen boxes last night. That felt good! Just some minor tweaking left - door alignment, decorative piece over vent hood, a shelf missing etc. Then it turns over to me to pick pendants, light for eat in area, and cushion fabric for banquette, to really get the place finished. Pretty things I just couldn't deal with when I was up to my earballs in the structural stuff, plus I wanted to see the finished product before choosing some of these elements. Aren't you glad you asked? :) Dianalo, you are definitely doing the right thing by being present. Even if you don't catch problems, if they know they'll see you at some point they may wait to confirm things, or suggest better/different ways to do things. You'll probably find you don't have to be there a lot. Good to hear things are going well for you, Florantha and hellonasty (did your appliances go in smoother than mine??) - I've been away from this site for a couple of weeks while on vacation, so feel soooo far behind! we watched the first two seasons. We used to love it. But then they started saying it was a NEW show, when it was just rehashing old stuff.. that was iritating, so we would change the channel. Then they changed it to 10 oclock and we just stopped watching. we never did find out what the big white polar bear kind of animal was! lol I wouldn't have a clue about anything on it now. But I will be willing to find a site that might give us a one page summary after the final season! lol

I was hooked on it for awhile and then lost interest because I could not follow the plot. Check out MSN home page. They have a video-5 Lost seasons in 5 minutes. Kind of funny but it helped a little so guess I'll check out the first episode.

I'm there with you mcmann! I am a LOST junkie. And I very rarely get hooked on a television show. I do not watch anything else faithfully. But I love LOST. Never lost interest. The harder it got to follow, the more I liked it. I am glad it's the final season, though. I'm ready for some closure. I even like watching the "review" shows the started showing, see things I forgot or didn't notice the first time. I think this is the only show I have ever made the effort to see every episode from the beginning. DH can't stand it, won't watch with me. Whatever. I will be watching next Tuesday!

We LOVE LOST! So happy it's time for the final season.

Mystery, romance, drama, humor, ancient mythology, science fiction, time warp, hunky guys and cute girls -- what more could we want in a show?

I'm addicted, too. I'm with Stephanie_in_ga - the more complicated they make it, the more I like it. I only wish Walt were more a part of things; he showed such great promise.

Do you all ever read this site? The people there are obsessed! (I'm obsessed, too, but I forget lots of details.)
