Definitely the second - it's such a lovely, refreshing bouquet.

I don't know about you but now that you can buy a dozen roses at every supermarket or convenience store they seem to have lost some of their appeal. Where once they marked a special occasion now you can get a dozen for $10.

After what happened to me with 1-800flowers.com & it's a shame our history is gone again; I would make sure there were no substitutions; especially on the pink vase if that's why you're buying it. Also figure out what you will allow them to substitute flower wise. You might also think to take the picture with you to a local florist; then they can tell you whats in stock & what isn't.

Congrats on the new baby! Is she the one that had the 11 pound baby? If so, you have probably already sent flowers. I am not a fan of flower arrangments but LOVE bouquets of one type flowers. I love pale pink flowers, hense the name New Dawn.

I love number #2. I received similar flower arrangements from DH after having DD1 and DD2.

No. 2 is the choice then. I'm getting ready to call my local florist and have him tell me which florist near the hospital will be open during the labor day weekend in case she goes into labor early. And I'll also ask him if the shops he uses in the City will have this specific arrangement.

I gave up on FTD and the like years ago when they sent nearly dead flowers to a funeral home. I guess they figured we'd never hear about it. So now whenever I have to send flowers out of town I either call the hospital or the funeral home and ask which local florist had the nicest arrangements.

Then I'd call them myself and tell them what the occasion was and ask what they had would look good and last. That way I'd avoid the extra charges added by FTD and I usually was pleased with the arrangement. I've also had my florist call florists in other cities too.

Maire, how did you use FTD? Did you order directly from their website?

If so, I was wondering how that works. For example, I just went to their website and they have some beautiful flowers picked out and arranged by Vera Wang. But it said they come in a box.

If I ordered from FTD for myself, do they ship the flowers from out of state and send them here via UPS or FedEx? Or do they call my florist and have him deliver the flowers to me?

Anyway, my local florist is the one I call (I called him this morning), and what he does is call a fellow FTD shop near the hospital and they put together the arrangement and send it to the recipient the same day. The flowers won't be dead. lol.

We talked and he said if they don't have the particular vase they can still do the same arrangement in an equivalent vase. I'd like something that looks vintage. Or a pastel colored vase.

Harvest? You know, I wouldn't name my kid that but I have to admit I said it a few times out loud to try and figure out what I thought!

Sheesh, LOL! They have been calling the baby 'Appleseed' for the entire pregnancy. That led me to think of the name 'Harvest'. Please, no!!

Since you are familiar with calling florists, I would do what I always do. Call a florist near the hospital. Work with that person to "design" an arrangement over the phone. That way you'll get exactly what you want.

FTD arrangements are so obviously FTD - they aren't unique and for that reason I don't like them.

A dozen roses is, as mentioned above, grocery store material unless they are huge flowers on long stems.

I would do a pink and white arrangement directly with the florist. Plus, you save on the FTD fee this way!

The times I have sent flowers out of town, I called the local hospital there and got recommendations of the best florist in town. (or call a tony mortuary) Then I called them and told them what I wanted.
Each arrangement sent, from what I understand, was spectacular.

I've always sent FTD through my florist. He gives me ideas to choose from and I'll pick something out over the phone. All of the flowers have been beautiful. My neice works for a florist in another city and she commented that the flowers were the prettiest she's ever see.

I've usually seen the flowers I've sent through FTD and they've all been nice. So I'm not sure what an FTD arrangement looks like since all of mine have been different.

I won't have time to call a florist other than my own because I'll be at the hospital. We've already talked and he'll be contacting the FTD florist for me and go into detail what I want. Plus, he has my account info and he'll just put it on my cc I have with him.

BUT....if the baby comes Sat., Sun., or Monday, then it's a whole new ballgame since nothing's open on the holiday weekend!

This week is going to be hectic! I'm already exhausted from this past week because we had a huge picnic on Wednesday, and I'm on call 24/7 in case my DIL goes into labor early so I can watch their son. Then I'll be spending the night there a couple of nights and I'm trying to get my bag packed so I can be ready to go. AND ironing all of my dh's dress shirts, washing clothes, meal planning, etc. DS will be staying in her room the whole time taking care of the baby and my DIL. He even brings his own blow up mattress. lol

I'm so tired. I'm going to try to sleep in tomorrow. Elizabeth had best not come during the night! lol

It's a beautiful arrangement...perfect in pink, happy and fun.

I would send a dozen pink roses because of all the bad experiences I've had ordering arrangements that turned out to look nothing like the photograph. It's up to the discretion of the florist sent the order from FTD,etc. The florist will decide what flowers go into the bouquet and what vase will look like. The second arrangment is very pretty, I would love to receive it if I could be assured the vase and flowers are what they portray them to be. When you order all one type of flower there is a greater likelihood they will get exactly that. If you feel comfortable asking, see if someone will take a picture of the arrangement and send it to you so you can see how closely that florist followed directions. This is how many cheat customers, they skimp by using cheaper flowers and not-so-interesting vases because the sender is never aware how it turned out and the receiver doesn't know it was supposed to look like. And the middle man simply doesn't give a ...., they got your money.

FlyingFlower, I would but I just won't have time. Whoever it is that my local florist uses in the City has been really good, so I trust both florists.
