how to make a blog come up on google search

I didn't want to hi-jack the other post so I'll ask my question here. Hopefully I will get some blogging tips from the expert blogger we have on here.

DS (age 9) isn't very good at creative writing. When he took the STAR exam (California assessment exam for kids), he scores perfect score on every aspect (reading comprehension, verbal skill, etc.) except for writing strategy. I tried to get him to write little stories, journal, etc. but he found it bo-ring. So -- in order to get him to write more, I suggested to him that he should create a blog to write about the things that he loves (school, games, sports, etc.). He absolutely loves the idea because a blog would combine his interest in graphic arts, photography, videomaking, and (hopefully) we'll get to see some writing as well.

Anyhow, since I'm a rookie at this stuff, can you please show me how to make a blog appear on google search? Also, any tip on how to create a good blog would be greatly appreciated. DS is excited a/b this idea & want his to be the most-read blog for kids ;-D I just hope that it would help increase his writing skill.

I set up my blog on blogger this week, and it has not shown up on searches yet. There's a place on the page where you can notify them if this is the case, which I did, but it's still not showing up.

I've been told it takes at least a few days for a site to enter the database. I think Google is also having some technical problems with their site. If it doesn't improve I might move my stuff to another host.

I just wonder how important it is for a 9 year old's blog to be "found" on Google, when the purpose of the blog is mainly to cultivate his writing skills. You could just send the address to family members who would be interested.

I could write a book on dns to explain why they dont all work for you on neighboring computers but I cant spell too well, so anyhow... Anyways.. you might want to look in your Administrative tools(i think) for the 'Computer Management' tool. It's always a good idea to look quickly in the Event Logs... just for fun of seeing the errors ;) .. sometimes you'll see the problem and maybe even be able to follow the link to a fix. While in Computer Management / Under Services, look for DNS and make sure its set automatic and started. If not running and if it wont start, look at the dependencies tab,,, you will want the ip/sec service set to auto also. That should cover that. Then open a cmd window and type ipconfig /help and you can scroll up and see several things one might do. run the flush dns cache option in case cache is corrupted somehow, which some people do have problems with. ipconfig /flushdns ~all those google ip numbers and the google names do work for me, no problem. I dont use typical dns .. theres a program out there called TreeWalk that you might look into. I have found it makes things real snappy quick here for name resolution. It does your own dns cache so it seldom actually asks your isp or even your router for dns. And if a name doesnt resolve it quickly checks another dns server.

I have used it before, but I used it in a strange way. I try out differtent interesting ingredients and recipes. I believe you can get more authentic by using native recipes. So I use Google Translate to translate the English name of an ingredient to the native language, and many recipes will come up. Then I use Google Translate and translate the recipes into English. It really doesn't take that long to do. No, no, no, no! Don't get me wrong! I said "doesn't she care" with tongue firmly in cheek. I'm all for posting pics of kids. There's a disconnect for people here- they're ignoring the fact that this woman is IGNORING the good advice posted. I for one don't care if she posts pics. I'm just bringing to attention another red flag- but people don't want to see it. Yarnlover, it doesn't sound like you've even read any of my other posts in regards to this situation. I am somewhat of a BELIEVER of her story, however there are INCONSISTENCIES which do make me doubt. AND I'm arguing for people to have the RIGHT to QUESTION. No one "demanded" anything. We said it'd be nice to see a pic, especially since she said she would eventually. It's HER perogative, but we have the right to ask! She doesn't have to answer. She chose to be offended. No one got mean until people got indignant that she was being questioned- then the name calling started. I hope you're not referring to ME(!?) that I tell anyone who listens just how loving and Christian I am. I'm broken. I'm dysfunctional. I'm a sinner and yep. I make mistakes! Guess I'd better go hide in a hole! I understand that she needs help. I was the first one to post to FW asking for her address. As time went on, things just got weird. Ahhh.....a conspiracy theorist!! Sorry, not many search engines will help you with that. Unless they have advanced degrees and several initials after their name, thinking you are going to get accurate, unbiased information from the anonymous general public is just fooling yourself........but to each his/her own.

I think I caught that he wants his blog to be known a most-read blog for kids. Is that too cute or what? Fun goal and what a great project to encourage writing skills and typing skills too. Once he gets it established, it will be fun to track stats, visitor counters and I don't know what all he could find to do with his blog - but lots and lots is out there. It's great he's interested in doing this.

I would love it if my kids would get a bug to do something like a blog. But if you can't throw it, hit it with what's essentially a fancy stick, or tackle it, no one seems remotely interested. *sigh*

You know there's a Google blog search, right? That's where you want it to show up, not in a general Google search.

There are a few ways to make a web page appear on google. The basic way is to just wait.. google has "spider apps" that go out "crawling" the web adding new sites to their ranks. Defining "key words" allows you to designate the specifi information you want to be associated with your page/blog.

You can also POST your blog or page to google... basically you send a request to be added to the google ranks rather than waiting days or a week or so for a google spider to find you. You can also PAY to increase your ranks-- I definitely wouldn't go that direction.

SEO, Search engine optimization is a science-- and for businesses it can get tricky and complicated. For a blogger, I would just be mindful of the keywords used.

Another thing is that you "retrigger" the google spider and "freshen" your listing by adding/editing pages. A more active blog will be more frequently updated.

I wish your son much luck and much fun with his new project! I'd encourage him to do some of this research too. I know it isnt as creative and fun as the graphics and videos will be but it is all part of the project. It's also invaluable knowledge in this information age!
