If ie & you have the status bar, the bottom frame of window, there is a eyeball ... double click it and up may pop the reason you can't get there.

Or open a command window by typeing into the Run line
CMD
then type in
TraceRt www.google.com
to see if it 1] gives you googles ip # for your area & 2] if all the routers between you and it pass you along.

Hi. Google.com isn't loading for me either. I have a brand new HP laptop, and theres no viruses, spyware, adware currently. I also have a Linksys Wireless N router. When i type in www.google.com, www.google.ca, www.google.co.uk or any other google, it doesn't load. All i see is a blank page and on the bottom right corner, is says that it's "Waiting for www.google.com...". After i wait for a few minutes, it says that the page could not load. If i try to load http://64.233.187.99/ it works.

I've tried to do what Mikie said in the previous posts but nothing works. I dont understand what Im supposed to do after I type in TraceRt www.google.com in the command prompt.

I think internet is having some snow problems this afternoon here. Old microsoft download is slower moving than a squashed google m&m.

tracert www.google.com   then push Return
should tell you if the google name is being converted to an ip number successfully by a combination of your computer/router/isp .. which is a good thing,
and then if you try using that IP number to access google - if it still doesnt work, it could be something else is wrong ;) I could go on but.. could take a while.

The hops verify everything is working between internet routers passing the packets along to and from google without a roadblock.

if you just ran tracert www.google.com and if it came back with imageshack...

then it looks like maybe you should run ad-aware & spybot search & destroy

if translating google to ip gives you imageshack, somewhere there is a villain or he's come and made some stupid change.

might also search with advanced checked for HOSTS with no extension and open it in notepad and if you see a line with imageshack on it, delete the whole line.

Shows that you get an IP translation fine, and it goes to a google server [72.14.205.103], that is somewhat near you ...and it passes thru all the internet routers and reaches it ok.

When I try that IP and it works fine here. That ip is different than the one you used up above.

Maybe next time rather than using the COMMAND window, use the CMD window - then you can right click and choose 'Mark to highlight. Then a simple right click copies the highlighted area.

Havent been reading tech stuff much lately but did hear on the news that ice or some kind of chilly stuff shut down parts of the internet and will take up to three weeks to repair all the damage... it could be that googles server was in that area and to dns it to other servers might take 24 hours each time they make a fix.

Google/Yahoo ; they have servers all over the us. Probably all over the world. They try to direct your search to the nearest ones so you get appropiate advertising, appropriate searches too for some items that would be local to your connection and search results.
AmaZing some of what they actually do - they know where you frequently buy online stuff so those stores databases in their search order for you will be towards the top. I hate that.

If it was shut down, then why does google.com load on my computer and not on here? They are both located in the same home, use the same router and everything...
On my old laptop, google.com didn't load either.

Now I can't get google on my other laptop (about 2 feet from the one I'm using now, brand new laptop, Santa brought it).

I don't understand what's going on here. On the new laptop, all I've really had a chance to do is set google as the homepage. I've been to 3 trusted websites and that's it. Haven't even checked mail from it or downloaded anything. Can't get to any websites now.

I could write a book on dns to explain why they dont all work for you on neighboring computers but I cant spell too well, so anyhow...

Anyways.. you might want to look in your Administrative tools(i think) for the 'Computer Management' tool.
It's always a good idea to look quickly in the Event Logs... just for fun of seeing the errors ;) .. sometimes you'll see the problem and maybe even be able to follow the link to a fix.
While in Computer Management / Under Services, look for DNS and make sure its set automatic and started. If not running and if it wont start, look at the dependencies tab,,, you will want the ip/sec service set to auto also. That should cover that.

Then open a cmd window and type
ipconfig /help
and you can scroll up and see several things one might do.

run the flush dns cache option in case cache is corrupted somehow, which some people do have problems with.
ipconfig /flushdns

~all those google ip numbers and the google names do work for me, no problem. I dont use typical dns .. theres a program out there called TreeWalk that you might look into. I have found it makes things real snappy quick here for name resolution. It does your own dns cache so it seldom actually asks your isp or even your router for dns. And if a name doesnt resolve it quickly checks another dns server.

Nothing works.
I just connected my laptop directly to the the router and google.com works perfectly. When It's at wireless it doesn't work. How can i fix this?
