Google toolbar & AOL removal

Help - I let AOL update to 9.0 VR and now I seem to have lost control of my PC. It put google toolbar on my IE page and I cannot remove anything. I also have AOL and that toolbar on start up - which I do not want.

I have tried everything that a google search (regular google) said to remove it and it won't go away. I also tried killing it through crap cleaner & winpatrol - no good. Also deleting it in every way I know how manually but it still comes back.

Can someone help me get my regular AOL 9.0 security and my regular IE6 back with nothing starting unless I click an icon ?? Also - how do I get rid of this google toolbar thing?? Please - I am starting to panic. Thank you, Debbie.

You should be able to remove these using the add remove programs. Both these tool bars should be listed there let us know if they are not....

Yes, they were both listed but the google toolbar would not remove even after I clicked remove. So I uninstalled all the AOL programs. I think that took the google toolbar out, too. Then I ran a Super spyware blaster scan and made sure everything was clean.

Now I ran a search on the pc for "AOL" and I am trying to delete everything that is still listed by doing that. Some of the items will not delete so I am not pushing my luck. Am I doing the right stuff? Thanks, Debbie.

I didn't know the Google bar stored history. I thought the browser did that's where I clear mine from the browser. Then I run ccleaner. Then I hit control "P" on the key board to check to see if the history is cleared. I also avoid tool bars called yhooo, google, realplayer, AOL, ask, help surf fast....

you could try re-installing it, I personally don't like add on toolbars, but some do show up in add remove programs so you might try removing then re-installing it. are you trying this on Internet Explorer or firefox or what type of browser? here are the instructions from Google Display issues: Toolbar disappeared

Just browsing around tonight and noticed there were computer forums here. I use AOL thought I would tell you it can be done as I have tried this and it works fine. Read the link I posted and it will tell you what program to download. It's for gmail but when you install it you will have the option to pick AOL from the list. and that's it. Then when you are online and click somewhere to email a site it will bring up a filled in AOL mail form from aol.com. I am guessing though you have to make sure you leave aol.com logged in all the time and do not sign out. I was helping someone once make yahoo.com the default mail in firefox by using the malto code or what ever it is and stumbled upon this so thought I would try it and file it away for reference in case someone needed to know that. I thought AOL would also be in add/remove programs, sometimes if you can not remove a program you have to reinstall the program to un-install it..

Lets not forgot about system restore if you get in a mess here, I can tell you how to do that & restore the computer to a time when things were working as they were...

Will that do it ??? I know how to do that but I didn't think it would do it. So far - I think I have removed both AOL and the google toolbar seems to have gone with it. Then I reinstalled the regular old AOL and now I will do a system restore - just to be sure.
