Google Toolbar

I just did a good no of Windows Updates & now find after reboot, that I have Google toolbar . I was using IE 6, on this last update took IE 7. How can I get rid of Googles Toolbar ??

It should be in the add/remove programs

Windows IE 7 is in the Add & Remove, but I cannot find the Google Toolbar unless it is in there under some weird name. I use OE for my mail & am unable to find any icon to access it on this Google toolbar.
Thanks for your reply any other suggestions ?

The new version of Spywareblaster does not offer the opportunity to install or not install any toolbars. When you go looking for updates the program tells you to click the link taking you to their web site to download the new version. Be sure to look for updates once installed. Also if you are not willing to pay for the program be sure to click to do manual updates and the the automatic update option.

Which browser are you using? Did you install the toolbar by itself, or did it come bundled with something else (like google earth, for example)? Did it ever work properly, or did it fail the first time you used it after installing it? In any event, I'd look in the ADD/REMOVE list to see if the toolbar is listed and if so-uninstall it. Also uninstall any program that you installed along with it. If the toolbar is not in the ADD/REMOVE list, you could try doing a system restore to a date prior to installing the toolbar. If you haven't already done so, search "google toolbar problems"-you may find an answer. In my opinion-toolbars are a nuisance and a waste of time...but your mileage amy vary. You can always try a different toolbar if you must have one. If a different one should also fail, you may have a hardware problem or a conflict with another process running on your laptop.

Hmm, I had not read the whole MS page but basically you only need to follow the first 2 instructions. I have never had to use those other instructions myself. Remember that if you get flustered just click the Cancel button to get out of where you are. There is nothing to be afraid of when using System File Checker. You It simply goes through your computer checking all the operating system files and replaces those which are corrupt or missing. The need for the CD is so it can get the needed files to install for you. The slight downside is that it takes the computer back to when your particular CD was created which means you will be behind on security updates and possibly a service pack. No big deal there either, you simply go to the windows update site and the computer grabs whatever it needs. You are doing nothing wrong. Who knows why those files went missing. Perhaps/probably it was due to the power outage. You can of course extract and install each of those files if you wish to avoid using SFC. Follow the instructions here to do that for each file. You do not have to do them all at one time. Try one, see how it goes then do others as you feel up to the task.

Do Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up your Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, and click once or twice on the CPU tab at the top of the listings: this will show what process is chewing up the most resources (which will probably be the culprit). Also, look at the CPU Usage line at the bottom of Task Manager and see what the % Usage is. Then report back here on what you found out.

That is interesting. I would have thought Roselvr had the right idea but it is not listed in Add/Remove Programs. Strangely nor is it listed on my C:\ drive in Program files.

Doing a search for google.* I found one instance of google.xml in my Firefox folder. At least I now know where it is.

Maybe right click a blank spot on the regular toolbar.. look around in windows settings.
If you dont find it look in IE/Tools/Internet options, Programs tab, you should see a button to display add ons.

Do you have the actual Google toolbar or just the Google search box? You can change your default search to something else if you want.

mikie was right....if you click on an empty spot on the toolbar, you will find Google and can uncheck it...I think. I know it's there and checked on mine anyway...I like it. I figure if I were to uncheck it, it would go away

There isn't an option under view > toolbars in IE 7? I haven't upgraded to it, I don't use IE, I use an IE "hack" called crazy browser.
