I've found that all my animals and birds have personalities and quirks of their own, they are very individual. Those white Cornish Cross chickens, the ones I call "frankenchickens" because they are 7-9 pounds in eight weeks, are just dumb. I actually feel sorry for them. My "girls" are quite social and I know several people now who live in town and keep a couple of hens as pets, they aren't as smart as parrots but they're friendlier! Some animals and birds are meant for cold weather, some for hot climates. When the horses and other cows head for the barn, the Scottish Highland bull will stand outside and snort, billowing steam from his nostrils like a dragon, it seems to not matter a bit. We have four pigs, three will stand back politely waiting for their food but one will pull at your sleeves and pant legs, nagging to be fed RIGHT NOW. Although they are all meant to be food or provide food, I treat them all like pets, everyone gets petted or scratched, treated and pampered. None of them are aggressive or mean and all of them live happy, well cared for lives, not knowing that they'll be bacon or steak or chicken soup next week/month/year. I sustain them and they sustain me and that's the least I can do for them. Annie

I'm not a baker, but I agree with Rachelellen about the mushy result from the fruit. I don't think the dump approach will work, either. The packets are separate for a reason. I think she'll end up with something much denser if she doesn't follow the package directions. Cake freezes very well, so if I were her I'd make the cake per directions on the box. Wrap it well. Freeze it. Whip up a pineapple glaze the night before and bring it in a bowl for people to spoon over their servings. I'm not a fan of pineapple but love Angel Food, so I like the idea of serving it on the side. Just call me Sally.

Madonna, I've been getting one or two eggs per day for a couple of weeks. Before that it was an egg every other day, yesterday we got 5 eggs, today I got one. When I get 12 hours of sunlight, I'll start getting a more consistent amount from my 21 girls. I did get 2 on Friday and an elderly neighbor stopped by to visit. He had a mild stroke several weeks ago and was staying with his daughter, now he's back home and recovering well. He very longingly told me how much he missed those "farm eggs", even the cage free ones at the store aren't the same. So I handed him the two eggs I'd gathered that morning and told him that breakfast was my treat, LOL. He got that same grin. I can tell you that one Australorp laid all winter, an egg every other day like clockwork, she was faithful, even when nothing else was laying eggs. The Buffs are second in production. The Cuckoos lay those nice dark eggs and are pretty consistent, but they don't have the production of the Buffs and the Australorps. The Aracaunas haven't started laying at all yet, not a single green or blue eggs yet, but the seem to be getting all their feathers "fluffed" and finished their molt and regrow of feathers, so I'm waiting. I hung that picture of Colonel Sanders in their coop too... Good luck on that training, I'll be thinking of you on Saturdays. Annie
