yes, They are quite good to eat too, I used to breed rouen ducks until a coon got them all,I have found that the goats seem to discourage the predators for them. The downside is finding a stepped on egg every so often in the barn. her eggs last year did lighten to a shade of blue/grey, I jsut didn't know if the black was normal. My brother is in the copier business, and told me she was running out of toner when they turned grey! LOL!

Something I got to thinking about was the fact that since they are so fresh, the eggs aren't as dehydrated as store-bought. That was my reasoning, anyway. I have started feeding my chickens with the crushed egg shells with no ill effects. I had one hen that got a little wheezy on me last week. It coincided with me cleaning out the coop that day. I suspected that it was the dust in the air and thankfully she quit it the next day. With all the bad weather we've been having, it struck me how nasty the coop could get in a relatively small time. I can't imagine what it will be like over the winter! How often do y'all clean your coops? I was under the impression that several times a year was good but with all the poop in there just over a few days of bad weather...I can't imagine!! Lori

Hi! A couple weeks ago we noticed 2 Carolina wrens building their nest in our fern right outside of our kitchen window. We were so excited! Then a few days ago we no longer saw them around and sadly thought that they had abandoned their nest. This morning we were talking about removing the nest from the fern and when I peeked, I saw 5 eggs! Now we are concerned if they have abandoned their eggs :( Is this possible? We haven't seen them around at all. What time of the day do they incubate? Would it be possible that we are missing their timing? We are not morning risers. Agh! I'd be so sad if by any chance we scared them away :( We have been very respectful, however sometimes we would open the window. I do not know how long the eggs have been there. I thought that as soon as they were close to being done building their nest, they had left. Do they first build and then lay their eggs? Thank you so much!

Irma, thanks for the thread! My husband may get to come home on Christmas Eve and I was thinking about something sweet to make last minute for Christmas dinner. Since I'm planning on making stuffed shells, zabaglione should be perfect. Bought raspberries and blueberries today.
