Does clutter make you feel anxious?

I have a lot of stuff on my kitchen counters, but I don't consider it clutter as we use it, like the toaster oven, the can opener, the cylinder full of utensils, hot shot, etc. Clutter to me is stuff that has a place, but isn't in it. We have only a few corners of clutter where they're supposed to go...like on the desk area in the kitchen with bills, catalogs and junk mail; like coats hanging on the hooks in the mud room that aren't hung up in the closet; like stacks of papers in the in box(s) on DH's desk. For the most part the clutter is kept at bay. Mainly because we both like the look of the rooms when they're neat and it does keep it less stressful. But we also designed in places for things to go. When we run out of room, that is not the sign to add more spaces, but the sign to clean out the existing ones. To ellendi and others with a coat issue, I'd suggest a 2-point tackle...1) add coat hooks where it's convenient to the door so you don't have to open the coat closet to hang them up and 2) tip the dining chairs on their side for a few days after installing the coat hooks so they can't be used as an alternative to the hooks until the new habit is formed. My gf lives in a 4 br colonial with the basement level garage, which only has room for 1 car as the other is full of stuff. Then you walk into the hallway which is very narrow as it's lined with stuff on both sides, past the laundry area which is stacked with unfolded laundry and around the corner to get to the stairs that go up. I never say anything, but every time we go through there, she makes a comment about needing to get to it, or about who's stuff it all is or whatever. I know it eats at her and stresses her out. She certainly doesn't need more stress in her life. I'd even offer to help her clean it up and organize it so the simple act of coming home doesn't cause her such fret, but I'm afraid she'd take it as criticism. Mind you, her adult son is living at home post college so is strong and capable of helping her with the heavy lifting. But somehow...an issue common to women?... she feels as if, as the mother, it's her responsibility and she doesn't enlist her children's help. And that is really the point of reducing clutter...the simple act of coming home should be welcoming, not stress inducing. Here is a link that might be useful: Why mess causes stress

Here's my advice: 1. Start with paint. If you have a room that is not going to require a total redecoration, paint it. It's the least expensive way for big impact. 2. If you have a few rooms that you want to redecorate, like I do, pick a room. Start creating your design board or design album. It should help you put things together visually to get a sense of the feeling of the room. Once you get your design fairly solid, paint! 3. It's OK if some rooms that are not used a frequently remain a work in progress, but rooms that you use often try to finish. Living in unfinished rooms causes me anxiety! 4. Use this site. The people here are so helpful. They give you design advice, color advice, recommend cheaper options, etc. Here's some pix/links to give you an idea: My reading room, which is still in progress Kitchen Re-do. We did it ourselves. How LOW temp does you oven go

Very happy with my Miele CSO. I think it goes from 85°F to 435°F, and I can control temperatures in 1°F steps, if I type them into the on-screen keypad instead of using the on-screen scroll wheel. This means, my CSO makes for a really convenient sous vide cooker. It does have a couple of quirks, though. The entire temperature range isn't available in all modes. But there usually is another mode that will allow access to the rest of the temperature range. In practice, this doesn't matter often. But on some occasions it makes for an awkward user interface. It also means that some settings can be chained into a temperature programs, while others can't. And for whatever reason, sous-vide cooking is artificially restricted to no more than 10 hours. None of the above are really a big deal. But they do make the UI more confusing than it should be necessary. Sounds as if other brands have similar arbitrary restrictions, too. I noticed that for the really low-temperature proofing modes, my CSO turns off the oven lights. I guess the minimal amount of heat from those lights is already too much to hold those low temperatures. I regularly use it to proof dough and I am quite pleased with the results.

Much prefer arc lamps, chandeliers and layered lighting. Nothing worse than recessed lighting. Terrible on your skin and does nothing for your styling.

Stacy-DON'T cancel-you'll only get worse without help!!

Can you take Iron Supplements? I know I did when I was pregnant the first time. Red meats and spinach have iron in it.

Good Luck and let us know AFTER you go to the doc's!

Stacy; I was in your situation years ago and I will never for my GYN's statement to me that I should not even drive in a car, cause if I got in an accident and was bleeding I would not make it to the hospital. I had 3 teenagers at the time, how do you not drive? I suffered for years with all those symptoms, thanks to a huge (5 month pregnancy size fibroid). But I did not want the tranfusions either, I went on an iron intensive diet and iron pills (along with lots of fiber). Finally I was able to have the surgery to remove the fibroid, along with my uterus, and almost immediately I felt so much better, I could not belive the difference in how I felt. Looking back, I should have had the transfusions so I would have had the surgery sooner. Take care of whatever the Dr's want you to do. so you can get back to enjoying life...

Stacy, have you had your thyroid antibodies tested? Not tsh, t3's or t4's - but the antibodies??

Feeling tired? Lethargic? Having trouble thinking or concentrating? Feeling dizzy? Weak? Pale Skin? Always feeling cold? Plus low iron and female problems are ALL symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Definately get the iron up, but make those doctors check your thyroid antibodies. It is amazing how much difference a little thyroid pill can make!

I think I mentioned my sister-in-laws low ironwhen you mentioned how cold and sleepy you were? Her level was 4. Before Christmas she was in for a transfuion. She just had her second blood transfusion Friday. 2 units each time, she is on iron pills also. I am not sure what her problem is, some people according to my DB don't manufacture it enough? But she had gastric by pass also and I wondered if she is not getting or absorbing enough nutrients????

Don't cancel the appointment Stacy!! Please don't. I could kick my SIL's a$$!!!! I mean really. She was to the doc last spring for something else. She hates doctors, never goes in unless she is almost on her deathbed. I mean hates them and will never go in for anything! Which is why she gets so bad IMO. They told her last spring her iron was low, gave her pills, she said she didn't think she needed them!!!!!! Argggh stupid stupid stupid. She quit taking them and was feeling sleepy, tired, (she said coffee made her sleepy! can you imagine???) she had a hard time breathing,(your heart pumps the blood that carries oxygen don't forget)I am really not sure what all, I think her skin was very dry?(not positive about that last one)She was supposed to take the iron pills, go back in for more blood work and to see the doc and of course canceled the appt "cause she didn't need to go".

Anyway she NEVER listens to her doctors and does what she wants, then it gets so bad she is in the hospital or something! Like I said I'd like to kick her butt!

Don't make us come down there and kick yours! :)

Also my GF's DH was anemic, pretty bad. Hadn't felt good for a long time, he found out he has Celiacs Disease. But I think from talking to you before about it, from the sound of things thats not what the problem is. Keep those appointments you told me you had girl! Very important.

Stacy - AFTER you get your iron levels up - go and get a copy of your bloodwork (thyroid tests) and see if they checked the antibodies. If they didn't check the antibodies (and MOST doctors don't) ask them to. The reason I'm stressing this is because you have a lot of hypo symptoms. I also have fibroids, female problems and I had daily headaches for the past 4 years (every fall and winter like clockwork) - since I have been on thyroid meds I have not had any headaches, PMS has improved and a lot of the other symptoms are going away as well. It is still early in my treatment but I believe the headaches and the PMS were directly related to the thyroid problem.
