Comments (53)The furnace model number with the XR16 is an XC80. Very similar to the XV80 but communicating. Must be a mistake. TCONT803 is a fine thermostat to use with the XR16 air conditioner and furnace. Overall, I do not agree with the equipment matchups proposed with the furnaces and air conditioners. Oversized furnace on both systems, and oversized coil to achieve marginal efficiency gains on the XR16 system. I realize you may not understand all the implications of oversized equipment, but it is a big deal for comfort, efficiency and reliability. All things considered I still recommend the heat pump system. This post was edited by ryanhughes on Wed, Apr 24, 13 at 13:54...See More1 stage vs. 2 stage infinity a/c
Comments (2)I have found in my own 2 story home that the AC cannot push the heavy cold air up to the top level in low speed, so I have to keep it in high speed. I also find that leaving my fan on continuously helps aleviate the stratification of the air between the two floors. Normally, for a one story home I would pick the two speed, but for a 2 story I would go with the single speed. Your ECM motor is built to run continuously for the life of the furnace....See MoreComparing HVAC quotes: 2 stage AC vs 1 in SE Pa.
Comments (5)@ Mike_home: I meant only de-humidifier. I am not home now, will check the humidity reading when I got back. We installed the de-humid as part of a basement waterproofing system some years back. At that time we were running a 10yr old Cent AC and the dehumid definitely was working. Prior to that the basement smelled somewhat musty (my wife is very sensitive w/ allergies) and we ran 2 portable dehumids on the first floor, emptying them frequently SE Pa can get warm and sticky, the whole house unit was needed, it will be interesting to see if we need to run it with new AC. As for the load, 3 contractors each bid 3 ton units after their inspections. I haven't seen their results, but I will ask and if I find out anything interesting, I will comment. Thanks all for your help. John...See MoreHow does this A/C Quote look ? Is 2 Stage worth $1700 over 1 stage
Comments (19)None of the 6 Contractors who came in with estimates wanted to do the Manual J Calculations, they all say the Manual J calculations done when the house was built (2000) are good for now as they were no additions since. They said getting down to 4 Tons will have the A/C struggle in the summer time. the 70% of a 2 stage 5 ton unit will be less than 5 tons working anyway. The Ducts are in good shape still since the initial install. After many deliberations & negotiations today I finally signed up with who I thought has good reputation in the area, for a TRANE 5 Ton, 2 stage XR 17 Heat Pump with 16.25 SEER matched to a Trane variable speed fan motor Air Handler & a TRANE Thermostat for $9220 cash. I is scheduled for next week install. I thank every one for participation in this thread, it was a great help for me to sort out the ins & outs of the AC equipment, which I did not know anything about. I thank this Houzz forum to make the exchange of information possible. My best regards to every one.....See Moretigerdunes
