WHAT??? I watched DOOL faithfully in the 1980s, and so did my parents in Florida. It's been more than 15 years since I've seen an episode, but I can't imagine John and Marlena getting bumped! The storyline must have changed radically since I stopped watching.

I hope they're not getting killed off. How is the exit being handled, do you know? I wonder if Deirdre (?) Hall can possibly get any other acting roles. She is so firmly associated with Marlena.

BTW, someone told me that an old character whose name I can't remember is back on the show. Her real name is Susan Hayes, I think, and in real life she's married to the guy who played Doug. Are both of them back on the show? I think they were gone for a long time.

Sounds like John and Marlena got too expensive, salary-wise.

I've watched Days for years, still do. It's definitely had it's ups and downs and some of the storylines are so stupid. I was shocked that they got rid of John & Marlena when there are other characters that they hardly do anything with. It would have been nice to have seen them reunite awhile before they left though so that we could at least enjoy them a bit before they left. It's all so fast.

As a side note, I really hope the Sami/killer storyline gets wrapped up fast...I'm tired of seeing her in the safe house, although I really dont mind watching Rafe!! He's soooo cute and I think him and Sami have good chemistry.

I have watched DOOL for about 20 years now. I know no one agrees with me but I think John is one of the worst actors I have seen. The story line with him and his memory is so old. I think they are trying to get with the younger crowd. I love Sami with just about anyone. lol

I also have watched Days for year. I don't like that John & Marlena are being let go. I can see they are trying to attract a younger audience but there is something to say about us older one. It will be interesting to see how they do the Horton Christmas tree when they have all the older actors gone.

I soooo agree with you about John, Waddles...he is just so fake! I am not a huge fan of Marlena's either. So, I am not real sad. (sorry)

They have both went away before...and sooner or later they will come back.

I do enjoy Sammi & Rafe together, he doesn't put up with her 'stuff'! I hope they stay together!

Although he is kinda nice to look at....I hope they get rid of Dr. Daniel....GOOD GRIEF...how many beds can he jump from???? And IMMEDIATE lust!! COME ON!! They have really gone overboard with that tale...in my opinion!!

And yes...I too have been a faithful watcher of DOOL since the beginning with my mother and grandmother.

yes "doug and julie" have been on for several months...i saw yesterday that marlena and john get married for what the 4th time, lol...i can't see them being killed off but sent off to "find themselves", once again...that way they can be brought back at christmas...

maybe they can do "love letters" on the stage, lol....

John and Marlena are leaving the show. They tried to havde Marlena leave once not long after I first started watching the show. A serial killer killed her. But fans picketed the studio and they decided to make it her twin sister who was murdered and Marlena came back. She has left a few times since. Remmeber she did that drama on tv for a few years with Wilfrid Brimley (the oatmeal commercial guy). She can do other stuff besides Marlena. John, on the other hand, I don't know. LOL His acting isn't the best but I've seen worse. hehehehee Will the show survive without them? Why not? Other soaps survive without them. It'll just be like another show, that's all. I would stop watching though, if Sami's character was let go. She makes this show and I love her! Alison Sweeney grew up in front of us and while I wasn't crazy about her acting skills as a teen, she sure has gotten good! I really like her with this cop. I hope they put these two together. The fact that he's cute to boot, sure helps...........

I have to agree that the actor playing John as not being that great. When he gets that super "intent" look in his eyes...makes me laugh!! LOL!!
But...noone is as bad as the girl who plays Melanie!!!! She kills me!!!
It is kinda sad to see them go, just because they have been on there so long.
Really, there are a lot of characters on there that they don't show much, so makes me wonder who might be next to be cut.
I've been watching it for as long as I can remember, back in elementary school. It was only a half hour long then. I have missed years of it, but you can always catch back up.

Oh, and I think Dr. Dan is disgustiong!!! What a H-Dog!!
I bet it turns out that he is a a sex addict or something. LOL!!

I haven't watched DOOL since the time when Marlena was "invaded" by demons. It was just too much and so far from reality that it was truly pathetic! And I just CANNOT watch the guy who plays John - drives me nuts absolutely. Give me Coronation Street any time!

I haven't watched for a long time, but Jason used to call John "that robot cyborg guy". It always cracked me up. :)

I was under the impression they chose to leave not that they got bumped. I heard the entire cast had their pay cut pretty heavily and because of that some cast members chose to leave. That could just be press spinning to keep them from looking like they got fired. Who knows?

I read that Drake and Diedra weren't given a pay cut option. They were just cut.

John and Marlena are the two highest paid actors on the show, just by virtue of their longevity. DOOL came close being being cancelled altogether. So, axing the higher salaries was a compromise - for the time being.

As for Sami, she's really pregnant. By keeping her in the safe house, they can cut back on her time on camera without having had to give her an early leave of absence.

I have watched DOOL on and off for 35 years. I quit watching for a long time after they started killing off everyone. Then I tried to watch again with Belle/Shawn etc and then again I couldn't watch. John/Marlena are to fake. I can't stand them. I never liked watching them. So I guess I won't miss them. I still like Sami and Lucas the best and of course I love Doug/Julie and Bo/Hope. I was really disapointed when they brought back Steve/Kayla they ruined them. SO I pop in to watch the Christmas show every year now and thats about it.
