I just heard that these soaps have been canceled starting in Sept and early next year. I hate that only GH & B&B will be left. I watched ATWT for 40=years, and that ended last September.
Young and the Restless will also be around. I used to watch DOOL until I got tired of the repeated breakups of Hope and Bo and Sami's storyline with the English sounding guy.
Never watched OLTL or GH. Just stuck with these two and I loved another World when it was on.
There was a time when I would be glued to the TV every day watching one after another, soap. It was difficult but I broke the habit, although I did tun into All My Children once in a great while. I have heard the AMC's days may be numbered. I guess it is a different time we are living in.
days of our lives is the only one I have ever watched but I have watched it pretty much daily for many years, watched it some on our lunch break at college, started seriously again in the 80's. I will really miss it if it does go.
Thinking of all the old shows I liked, Edge of Night, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, General Hospital in the beginning with Steve and Jessie, later Luke and Laura, I miss them. The times are changing. I watch very little TV.
I've watched Days off and on for over 30 years. Right now, it's off. I watched 20 minutes of one show last week and see they're recycling a John storyline, using Rafe instead. (faux Rafe, while real Rafe is locked in the basement). I may watch it again in the future.
Right now, I'm watching Y&R. It's on at 4 here, which is when I get home from work. I took a 20 year break from the show, and got hooked again when John died. I've been hooked since. I love Adam!
OMG I'm still at a loss at 2:00 when I used to watch Guiding Light. I watched it for years--taped it when I wasnt here and even got DH hooked on it. All those people are now on other soaps, so I guess w/ these 2 cancelling, they'll be out job hunting again.
I was sad when Guiding Light and then As the World Turns went off air. I remember being a young teen, and coming to my Grandmother's house to care for my Nana (great-grandmother).
Nana was OK for a few hours on her own, but my grandmother worked, and during the summer I would walk to her house and stay with Nana. She was about 88 at that time, but goodness! she loved her "stories"!
So while I didn't watch them for years, GL and ATWT were my third generation soaps. My mother watched them, too. I picked them up again when we moved here. My son was just barely 2 years, daycare was hideous, so I stayed home. Those soaps came on during nap time, LOL. That was 23 years ago.
I didn't watch religiously, but I did enjoy them. I certainly preferred them to the other daytime programming.
The genre seems to be going away. I can understand, because while a soap will pull in a couple of million viewers, so will a talk show. But the talk show is much cheaper to produce.
