All My Children and One Life to Live - Cancelled

Just heard it on the news...these 2 soaps are being cancelled. I haven't watched soaps since the early 80's but can remember watching them.

They will end in September and January.

To give you an idea the last time I watched One Life to Live...Judith Light played a hooker.

All My Children....there was a character who played a pimp (he played on Sesame Street) but don't remember his name.

Wonder how they will end these soaps?

I don't watch soaps, but those shows have been on for ages.
I wonder how many years? (I'm in my 60's)

I haven't watched a soap in over 20 years. I used to live my day by them, such a addiction!

I live in a very different part of the country (inland SoCal) with relatively low humidity and hot dry summers. However I thought I'd show off my LA. :-) I first fell in love with her at Descanso Gardens, 160 acres of botanical gardens and displays. She was in partial shade and her sweet spicy scent captured my attention --- she had me at first scent! So I found her on-line and have had her now for at least 6 years or more. She's in front of a low retaining wall in all-day sun (think: hot, reflective, un-protected sun) in rich amended clay. I tend to forget to give her the same attention I give the HTs -- the same water, food, etc -- partly because she just seems healthier. Anyway this is a pic I took this month after giving her a thorough (and very late) dead-heading of last year's blooms. This is her mature size, about 3 feet tall and about 5 feet wide. ... and this is a close-up of her taken last month... ... and today, in all her ruffly goodness...

learned the hard way... marry someone you like and respect as a person - lasts long after the heat of passion wanes and those little worrying thoughts about parts of your partner's character start to grow. don't ever stay with anyone who doesn't think you're the greatest thing since sliced bread. not that your partner shouldn't know that you have flaws, we all do, but your flaws should be seen as part of the whole of you and just part of what makes you human.

I do find it unfortunate that school curricula tend to centre around American lit., even in Canada. Sometimes it expands to British lit. too but it's extremely limiting. I teach at an International Baccalaureate school where we are required to teach literature from around the world. Although the translations are not ideal, it adds such a variety, not only to content, but to style of writing and style of thinking. Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing pieces of American and British literature that I could not do without, but to allow students to see beyond the Western, English speaking world is a big deal in Canada. Specifically in Toronto, where we have so many students from so many cultures, they are more open to literature if there is a variety. Even old Canadian literature is not useful for teaching what these children need to know. I, however, would like to read more of Davies' books.

Ha! I can't take credit for the jerry-rig -- I had the "initiative" to look on line:), but I'll pretty much do anything to NOT stand at the stove. Yes, I tried to make this smaller; yes, I send thermometer pics to my kids so they'll try to cook more:) Poaching chicken breasts. Lars, I'd love to see if you try cheese-making -- I know you're an adventurous cook:) I don't eat a lot of milk products cause I can never quite tell what the reaction is going to be, but I'll take a risk to a have just a bit of this. Going to watch Ina, Cindy Mac. She's usually my go-to as her recipes are pretty spot-on. Plus, she doesn't like cilantro and neither do I, so we have that in common --LOL! And chloebud, oh my. That sounds delicious. Annie! My grandmother said that too! HA! She's also the one that taught me to knead over the phone when she lived in Pittsburgh, and I lived in New Jersey. I loved when we moved back to the 'burgh -- this woman always had great food even when you dropped in unexpectedly. I digress, but I miss her:) So, I'm now probably going to go down the mozzarella rabbit hole some time this summer because your thread was pretty inspirational HA! Thank you so much for finding it. My goodness, what a fun and unique time! Is there a hint for this or will I know: "The curd was cut into large chunks. If you cut it too soon, it affects the texture and results in dray grainy cheese, so timing is crucial." And I love this encouragement: "Mozzarella takes between half an hour and an hour, I was surprised it went so well. Trust me, you could do it." Have to look for rennet and citric acid too. Linda, I googled lactose free ricotta and there are some sites. Can't verify this one, but it looked similar to the process I used Lactose Free Ricotta. There is also a you tube. NOOOOOOOO! All my Children gone? I want to know what all the kids on the show are going to be like when they grow up! My dd said they could call it, All My Grandchildren.

There was another post about canceled soaps, and I posted about how I used to watch a whole line-up of them but at the time I could only remember AMC. Now I remember it used to start with Ryan's Hope, AMC, OLTL. then Gen. Hosp. I finally got away from daily viewing but would tune into AMC a couple times a year. I always found it interesting that a character would have a baby, then in 3-4 years, that baby was an adult. LOL Some of the plots were ridiculous.

SamKaren, I wonder if you are thinking of the AMC character, Jessee Hubbard played by Darnell Williams. He came and went from the show over the years, but I'm not sure what his character did on the show.

Oh my god.... Not that I have watched them in AGES, but oh my god... gone, thats weird.

I learned English watching the same line up as Dotty. Ryans Hope, All my Children, One Life to Live....

I sure am glad they posted wrong and it is not days of our lives that is being canceled it is the only one I have ever watched.

Well I watch them--actually I listen while I'm doing other things most of the time and I don't like it one bit.

Thanks for posting when they would be leaving, SamKaren. I couldn't seem to find it. I like OLTL better than AMC (although that Susan Lucci is fun to watch). The story line on OLTL has been really good lately.

What a bummer!

I have watched All My Children off and on ever since it started. I hate to see it go. All we don't need is another talk show or Doctor or Judge whatever show.

Moni, Erika Slezak is still on. She plays Vicki/Nicki. I liked watching her multiple personalities. Now she has a daughter with the same problem--Jess/Tess.

It's the end of an era. I remember my grandma watching her soaps while she was ironing (I was a little girl then.) Wonder if it was One Life to Live? How long have these shows been on air?

I watched both All My Children and One Life to Live, mostly on my summer vacations from school. My most memorable parts are the "old Tara" on AMC and a young Dorian on OLTL.

Matthew Cowles played the villain known at Billy Clyde Tuggle... He was what I always thought of as a truly funny villain... what a nut...he always made me laugh...

I used to watch AMC all the time from the time Susan Lucci was a teen... and only have it on in the background now and then.. but love watching the old timers and how their story lines go. Wonder if Erica will run off with Caleb?? LOL

That's a shame. Those two have been on forever, like As The World Turns.

One gets so attached to the characters -- for fans this will be hard.

Never watch either of them. Many years ago I watched As the World Turns when I breast fed my son. I got addicted and then when he was two I thought how stupid it was to reserve 1/2 hour a day to stop what I was doing , so I stopped cold turkey. About 25 years later I happened on the show and the characters were still there...

I remember watching Ryan's Hope because one of the characters on the show was also on Dark Shadows.

I (blushing here) also was hooked on "Mary Hartman- Mary Hartman."
