What fun- All My Children On The View.

My first child was born in 1978 and shortly after that 2 more were added to my family. With 3 kids under the age of 5 I spent a lot of afternoons while they napped catching up on my ironing and other chores. I started watching All My Children in those days and it was my little afternoon treat for about 10 years

The entire hour of The View today was devoted to the show and many of the actors, past and present made guest appearances. It was a nice reunion for many of the actors who haven't seen each other in 15 years and some of those old clips from the show were hysterical. I probably watched the show or listened to it on the car radio on and off for several years and it was fun to see so many familiar faces.

I enjoyed it, too. I think a lot of us either folded clothes or ironed while watching back then. Sure made ironing go easier for me, since I hate it so much!

Today's the last show--unless they continue it on the internet.

Good bye Pine Valley! Tears are in my eyes knowing it won't be back at lunch next week. Been watching many years off and on for years (mostly on).

Patty, I can really picture the yellow light shining thru the forsythia--it sounds lovely. And Ink, I am sure to look for Michelle's book! One time I saw a "pizza garden" for children which featured all the herbs that you might put on pizza like basil, oregano, thyme. I think that the kids would connect with the pizza theme much more stongly than they would with a regular herb garden--an excellent example of taking the design idea a step further. Someone might recognize that garden--it seems to me that one part was laid out by color like a rainbow and another park was broken down by region and so had a "globe-theme". It was featured in a major magazine. The responsibility of putting together a plant list for a public children's garden was a bit daunting because of the health considerations--plants must not be poisonous, they must not cause photos-sensitive or other allergic reactions (oops, there goes the euphorbia, which would have been a great "outrageous looking" plant to include), they shouldn't be attractive to bees, they shouldn't have dangerous spines or thorns, they must be rugged, there must be adequate 4-season interest. At the same time, the look that is considered desirable around here is influenced by the work of Thomas Hobbs, Withey/Price and others and by the ready availability of Heronswood Nursery and is opulent and full of a lot of perennial plants and foliage color--more the "tapestry" look instead of drifts, and one is encouraged to include a wide variety of plant material.

As a father of 3 boys, with the first entering 1st grade soon, this is something that I have thought about. Below are a few thoughts. First off...I have heard that the "late and great" Michelle Derviss is authoring a book on the topic: "The Backyard Kidspaces Idea Book" from Taunton Press. We shall see if her volume contains ideas that are within the budget of us that are not members of the Marin County Millionaires Club. Lawn: This is probably the most useful item in my landscape. The kids love an open area to play soccer, hit a ball, play in the sprinkler, set up a tent, and such. My kids also love running around the house and at my new place they can ride the electric car all around the house as well. Playset: A few years ago I picked up a large wooden playset that Costco was selling. Is it worth the assembly time, the expense and the room that it takes up? I am not sure. They do play on it some what and it is a good place to congregate with friends, or at least push a toddler in the swing while the other boys play. Places to be boys: I need more areas where my boys can be boys. There is a balancing act between creating areas that kids want to play and areas that parents want their kids to play. Piles of dirt and pits of mud are great...if you are a little boy (I don't have much little girl experience), but maybe not so great for Parents. My oldest was upset when I cut down some overgrown forsythia bushes because he liked to play under them. Kids Garden: My 6 year old has gotten a reasonable amount of joy out of a butterfly garden that we (mostly I) planted. He enjoyed picking out some annuals, he enjoys seeing a butterfly in "his" garden, but he really loves finding worms! If he finds a worm elsewhere in the yard he will take it back to his garden. Changes and Personalities: Kids change quickly, so it would be hard for me to invest a bunch of time or money into something that will only provide one year's worth of interest. Also, I see quite a difference between what things my 6 and 4 year olds like to do (it is a bit early to tell with the youngest). One needs areas to run and play sports, while the other would be fine to sit and play with characters. Make sure you are creating items that YOUR kids would want to play with. - Brent

Like I would pack up my kid and send him off to China. I had an acquaintance about 15 yrs ago, her husband was a computer programmer. They were a very young naive couple with a 3 yr old. I really don't know what they were thinking. Was offered a job in China for a year with great pay and "good housing" provided. When they arrived the company took their passports and the "good" place to live had a hot plate, 1 sink w/cold water and 2 rooms, no furniture, dirt floor. When the husband informed them he no longer wanted the position they were not going to let him leave, spent hours yelling and threatening him and wife. They had to basically escape. Made their way to the American Embassy and they were helped out of the country. No I don't think I will take you up on your ideal offer.

Matthew Cowles played the villain known at Billy Clyde Tuggle... He was what I always thought of as a truly funny villain... what a nut...he always made me laugh... I used to watch AMC all the time from the time Susan Lucci was a teen... and only have it on in the background now and then.. but love watching the old timers and how their story lines go. Wonder if Erica will run off with Caleb?? LOL

Recently saw an fairly long interview with Susan Lucci and her husband of many years (possibly on Sunday Morning show). The interview took place at her home and the Pine Valley studio.

She really seems like a sweet, wonderful (not to mention beautiful) 60 year old woman. One that I wouldn't mind sitting down and talking to and I've never watched a single All My Children.

I hope she finds something to keep her active and happy now that the show is over.

Jodi, she designs (I think) and sells jewelry on QVC. I doubt if she'll be idle long, but after working 40 years I think she deserves a nice long vacation.

I used to watch AMC faithfully, years ago. Then the actors started being younger with story lines to go with them. The past 8-10 years I would tune in every month or so. I have watched all this week and liked how they brought in some past cast members and honored departed cast members. I watched the final show today and thought it was sort of a weird ending. Good bye Pine Valley

It was a weird ending. I wish they'd just ended it when Erica ran after Jack saying, "Jack, I need you" and he turned around and said, "Erica, I don't give a damn what you need." Now that was funny and light and an obvious take on Gone With the Wind.. But the whole JR thing was strange.

I heard that they left an opening to take up where they left off on the internet. I have watched this show on and off for many yre. I personally can't understand what all the hoopla is about Susan Lucci. She certainly looks wonderful for her sge (65 in Dec), and has a great body, but IMHO she can't act worth a damn, she can sure over act tho. Thus the 20 plus Emmy nominations with only 1 win. I think she got that one as an award for her longevity.

All these years, I never watched the show.

Only daytime soap I ever watched was Edge of Night when I was preggie with my son, back in 1965. Never watched after he was born or any daytime soaps.

I heard the show ended with cliffhangers. How do you fans feel about that?

I never saw AMC......I was hooked on Days of Our Lives. :-)

I watched it and recorded it. Saw JR handling a gun after leaving Babe ...something got my attention ..next thing I saw was the local news.
Later that evening saw bits of the end that I didn't see. I even looked at my recording ..it stopped with the last scene I saw and the local weather update as I remember seeing.

Did it run over an hour ..would think it would 've caught all of it ..is it just the DFW station that missed some of it or just me?

My youngest sister was a fan from the beginning. I'll have to check with her. I never got into AMC. I always liked General Hospital, and it's still on. Back in the day, my favorite was Another world. It's been gone a long time.
