The irritating commercial

for J.C.Penny is running here.....and running ....and running. It seems to come on too often on most channels. I keep my remote handy to dumn it down when it comes on. I don't know about anyone else, but this irritating commercial sure doesn't entice me to go shopping there...actually the opposite is true, I'll avoid that store like the plague.

I wrote to them to tell them of my objection to their offensive (to me) commercial and their reply was to tell me to come in to their store on February 1 and they would "be happy to show me more". I wrote back and said that as a consumer the only recourse I have over offensive advertising is to not shop there anymore and so that is my intention. No reply to that :)

Dottie, my hairdresser is at JCP, I had an appointment yesterday and nearly every customer was saying the same thing. The salon manager reported that to the store manager, but she also said that corporate needs to know. I did email them, got a stock response but at lease they know. The volume on the ads is turned down a bit from the initial one I saw.

How sad that our fun forums have been taken over by the monster.... You are right, it is like commercial TV. I guess I don't mind having to close a box once in awhile, but the take the whole page over ads make me switch to a different website. I can only imagine how long those would take to load with a dial up connection. It would render the website unusable. Sorry for the rant- go plants!!

This may not be hardly on the same theme as annoying comments about your gardening skills, but I just need to vent. For the past several years, job,family and not a very good location kept me from doing much gardening. always in the back of my mind was... someday and somehow I am going to return to a property that I had owned for years, and have a garden. During that time, friends that knew my dreams would give me startings from their gardens and family and friends would give me a plant for special occasions. If I found a plant I liked on clearance I would buy it. Dh had been told many times that instead of a vase of roses, I would much rather have a rose plant. My yard basically became a "holding place" for my dream. A year ago things finally fell into place, for this to happen. But first things,first-- the house had to have major renavations, and my mother had a stroke and was hospitalized for 5 months before passing away. Needless to say my dream had to move down my list of proierities. Since we still own the property, we had just moved from, I thought my "treasures" would be safe until I could get a chance to move them. Imangine how I felt when people would come up to me and ask what I was going to do with all my flowers since I had moved away. One person remarked " you"e got flowers I have never seen before". Well, I am moving them to a new "Holding place", and will eventually get them into the right spot. If I had anything I didn't want to move, I would like the liberty of deciding what to do with it-- trade it-- gift it-- or even compost it. I"m not a selfish person, I love to divide--- but I want to know when I finally find the right spot for a special plant that it will still be there for me and that someone has just not helped themselves to it. Sorry for the rant-- I"ve waited 15 years, and I just don't want to be rushed now! Janet

Full disclosure: I have never seen HGTV, so I can't comment at all there. But I DO love TOH episodes. I really like how they care about craftsmanship--you get to see what's behind the walls, how they're doing things, what tools they use, WHY they're doing things, all kinds of informative tutorials. My favorite moment was when they were discussing removing a balcony door that they had just installed, and turning it back into a window. Apparently when the homeowner saw how the balcony railing would affect his view from inside, he decided he didn't want that balcony after all. No mention of how much that change of mind might cost, but it really did bring home the reality of remodeling. Sometimes you think you have it all worked out, but it's not until you see it all put together that you realize another choice might have been better.

I despise commercials of any kind-unless they're truly funny. There's a few for Orkin I believe, that make my DH and I giggle. Gigantic cockroach/ant like creature with hairy arms that drives a car. It kind of acts like a mobster of some kind. There's different scenarios for the ad. There's also a cute one with different versions of a family of Golden Retrievers driving a car and acting like a human family. I cannot stand the drug commercials. Most prevalent between 6 and 7 during the evening news. Aimed at the baby boomers like me. And I've noticed a pattern lately. The newest drugs seemed to be introduced on Mondays. My husband knows to automatically mute the remote during those ads and pretty much all others if I'm in the room.

Honestly.....I got in the bathtub, DH had the TV on and it aired twice in half an hour! It was more interesting than the show I was watching! lol I enjoyed seeing all the drama.....isn't that why we watch TV? To see drama played out.....

JMO and yes, their stock price has gone up....

Could you give a hint as to the subject of the ad?

I looked on YouTube and the most recent JCP ad was of people screaming because they missed a sale there. Is that it? There was also a stupid one from a few months ago with a bikini gal.

petraloid......they didn't miss a sale....they are fed up with coupons and sales. JCP is lowering their everyday prices, no more sales or coupons.

The same thing Walmart did......and it worked for them. :0)

I sent JCP an email telling them I hate this ad. All the screaming! I also plan to boycott JCP on Feb 1 and perhaps forever! I watch a lot of TV and that screaming ad is on all channels, and much too often.

By the way, JCP is very low in my opinion. Even after a guard was trampled to death by mobs of people on Black Friday a couple years ago, they continued to print and distribute "Door Buster" ads. Very. Bad. Company.

Why single out JCP for the door busting ads, Jannie? Seems to me most of the big stores do it, and the trampled guard was at Walmart. That wasn't the only bad result of door busting, though, but one of several.

I don't think the screaming ad is a good ad, but I have always likes JCP.

From what I've read JCP is giving up trying to compete with WM and going the high Fashion name brand line of goods good luck to them . I went for the bargains when I shopped there .

Honestly I have not even seen it until I clicked the link above........but then I usually don't watch the commercials......the beauty of recording them......

I haven't seen it, but then there are only political commericals on these days in Florida. Our primary is Tuesday.
